Finlay for me.

RedRideMeGood Sun 21-Dec-14 21:05:59

We have a Finley in our family. Finlay always looks wrong to me and in my head I cant help but say finLAY when I see it.

Finlay. Finley looks surname-y to me. Not Findlay...it looks silly.

Finley

I prefer Finley.

Finlay for me.

RedToothBrush Mon 22-Dec-14 10:24:36

Finlay.

But then I have family with the surname Finlayson, so I tend to think the correct spelling is Finlay as Finlayson is Finlay's son.

sarber Mon 22-Dec-14 10:27:52

My son is called Finley. Finlay just doesn't seem right to me

Lovely name, another vote for Finlay from me.

Becca1818 Mon 22-Dec-14 11:31:35

This is my boy name at the moment and we'd spell it Finley.

moxon Mon 22-Dec-14 11:32:09

Finley or Findlay.

cece Mon 22-Dec-14 11:34:29

I like Finley better as I would say it Finlee

Finlay I would pronounce as Fin-lay

Showy Mon 22-Dec-14 11:40:23

Finlay might be 87 on the list but if you add up all the Finns, Finleys, Finlays (and even Finnians), it's actually quite popular. Of the 5 boys I know born in the last year, 3 are Finn. There are lots in the local preschool/nurseries/playgroups and I know two people due next month who are going to use it (one Finlay, one Finn on its own).

Doesn't matter of course but in terms of popularity it's up there and you say you don't want overused.

Finlay or Findlay are the correct Scots spellings. Anything else is a variant although the pronunciation should always be the same.

Another vote for Finlay as we spell it that way.
