I love Seren smile

siennabella11 Thu 18-Dec-14 22:50:38

so does my partner lol I already have a Sienna though so my concern is that they sound to similar? x

mumteedum Thu 18-Dec-14 22:54:38

Sorry but the awful abadas on cbeebies had put me right off seren. I'm not sure about Welsh /irish/Scottish names unless you've got some links to it. Each to their own though. So I'm saying Elsie but maybe tis cos I'm English and it's a family name. fsmile

mumteedum Thu 18-Dec-14 22:55:50

Basically though, it's what you think that matters.

DramaAlpaca Thu 18-Dec-14 22:57:26

Seren is the only one I like, it's beautiful.

Elsie is very much a granny name to me, and Nuala is its Irish equivalent. I've never met a Nuala under the age of 70.

Jumblebee Thu 18-Dec-14 22:57:43

How do you pronounce Seren and Nuala?

If Seren is pronounce like seren-ity (I hope that makes sense!) then I really like it smile I've never heard or seen the name before.

ouryve Thu 18-Dec-14 22:57:46

They're very different names.

My gran was Elsie.

Anyone remember the Nualas?

Seren is nice. But very similar to sienna.

Nuala ..how is that pronounced?

Don't like Elsie, sorry.

Tanfastic Thu 18-Dec-14 23:02:09

I love Elsie.

siennabella11 Thu 18-Dec-14 23:02:11

Seren is like erin with and s if that makes sense? and nuala is pronounced noolah x

siennabella11 Thu 18-Dec-14 23:03:29

Elsie is my Favorite but i know that to certain generations it holds the granny connotations x

emeline Thu 18-Dec-14 23:05:34

If Elsie is your fave that's what counts. Those of us that are out of date with names will soon catch up.

squoosh Thu 18-Dec-14 23:07:11

In Ireland Nuala is on a par with Doreen and Mavis in the cool name stakes. Granny NON-chic!

NorksEnormous Thu 18-Dec-14 23:07:51

Elsie is my favourite there smile

badgerknowsbest Thu 18-Dec-14 23:10:41

Seren is the welsh word for star, I think it's a nice name but very popular where I am (South Wales so hardly surprising) grin

I like Elsie too, it's a really sweet name.

Ikeameatballs Thu 18-Dec-14 23:11:47

I love Nuala! I think it sounds v pretty.

Seren is to close to Sienna.

What about Orlaith (Orla)?

OHolyShite Thu 18-Dec-14 23:13:57

Elsie is my favourite.

Not mad about Seren and Nuala is positively awful. I'm Irish and it's the most fuddy duddy auntie name ever. Not remotely granny chic.

siennabella11 Thu 18-Dec-14 23:16:43

I love the name Orlaith but i know somebody who already has it sad

I think Nuala is really pretty too , but with being English i have never heard of the name before. Being told it is the equivalent to Doreen has put me off haha

perplexedpirate Thu 18-Dec-14 23:17:12

Elsie. Love it!

dragon what is Nuala an abbreviation of? (I'm Irish and thought it was a name in it's own right)

Jumblebee Thu 18-Dec-14 23:37:17

Thanks OP, in that case I definitely really like Seren, not too keen on Nuala and Elsie is middle ground smile

emeline Fri 19-Dec-14 00:32:07

Is it fionnuala?

MillionairesShortbread Fri 19-Dec-14 00:34:38

I know 2 baby Elsies born locally this year! My guess is its an up and coming name.

I'd go for Erin myself.
