We're having number five in 12 days and this is our front runner name. I'm slightly worried about pronunciation. What do people think and how would you pronounce it?

I think it's pronounced Dash-le.

But I'm probably wrong. :)

Don't be sorry if you don't like it lol i love marmite names and undetsnad that other people either love or hate them.

Pronunciation is the only sticking block atm. There are two generally accepted ways

Dash-uhl

and

Dash-yull

I prefer the second but don't dislike the first. If it's a case of just correcting people then they get it the I'm okay with that as we have other children's with name that need explaining initially.

I suppose Dash-yull makes sense in a Daniel (Dan-yull) kind of a way. Is it for a boy or girl?

Will you call him Dash for short?

I always wish I had called ds this, but hadn't heard of it at the time.

Mummy lion - you're a star! I've been struggling to find a way to explain the pronunciation and the Daniel example is brilliant! Thank you X

It's for a boy

Oh I see like Daniel. It doesn't roll off the tongue though I think sh-yuh doesn't flow like n-yuh.

lloydlf33 · 18/12/2014 21:46

Yes Dash for short

I've only ever heard it pronounced Dash-eel.

AuntieStella · 19/12/2014 08:45

I've only ever heard it said Dash-eel, and once Dash-ull, in RL.

I like it as a name, and think of Hammett and all the hardboiled detectives.

I say it Dash-ell like in the link above, fab name ??

I think it sounds better in an Americans accent, i don't mind it. Like nn dash.

I love it. I wanted to name DS2 Dashiell but DH vetoed it. I always thought that the pronunciation is Dash-ell, that's the only way I've heard it pronounced.

I would pronounce it Dash-ull but have heard of Dash-iull. Would never have guessed Dash-yull, I find that quite awkward to say.

CheeseBuster · 19/12/2014 12:32

It's nasty and sounds like cheap aftershave.

Report
Sophronia · 19/12/2014 14:19

I've only ever heard it pr. Dash-ull. Dash is quite a cool nn.
