After scouting around the name forum here on Mumsnet for a while I've realised that my taste in names isn't very popular.. But never the less I will share. I have actually surprised myself at how picky I am but opinions and suggestions are welcome.

Boys ~
Theon
Trevor

Girls ~
Roan

Forgot to mention I'm having non-identical twins. Genders are so far unknown so suggestions would be appreciated Smile

I love Theon. Roan not so much but Rowan is nice. I feel for you op. My 9 year old twins were boy girl. We agreed on names for boys but only got to agree to know girls name 3 days before they arrived. Glad they weren't both girls, second twin could have ended up being thing two Grin

I assume you're not a Game Of Thrones fan? Unfortunately lots, LOTS of people are so I would seriously reconsider Theon unless you want your son to be known as Reek.

Trevor to me is a bit like Kevin, Brian, Craig, Greg, Wayne etc. In Australia it's also used as a taunt "He's a bit of a Trevor" meaning uncool, dorky.

Roan pronounced like the colour of a horse or a dog? Not sure I could get past the animal thing - maybe Joan?

What are your criteria in terms of choosing a name? I'm not too sure what the connection is between the names you've suggested. They're not classic names, they're not modern - what exactly are you looking for?

I agree with surfsup, Roan just makes me think of horses. Do you mean it to be pronounced Rowan? If so, there are a few spellings out there for both boys & girls (I know one of each under 2).

I don't watch GoT but Reek isn't a good association! Theon to me sounds like a noble gas; Argon, Xenon, Neon ... Theon.

Trevor is certainly dated around these parts. Where are you, OP? Tell us some other names you like and we'll try to come up with some suggestions!

I don't mind Trevor or theon. FYI When I saw roan I pronounced it rowen as opposed to rhyming with Joan. How do u expect ppl to say it?

Roan will spend a lot of time correcting misspellings of her name.

I desperately want Trevor for my unborn bubba. But, sorry, I don't like the rest of your suggestions.

Theon - just no.

Trevor - Nor fashionable but a perfectly good name. There is also Welsh version, Trefor

Roan - very sorry, but looks like either the colour of a horse or a miss-spelling of Rowan.

Apparently, there is a boy's name Roan, but it's pretty obscure:

I have heard the girl's name Roanne.

There is a well-known Indian boy's name Rohan.

Tolkein also uses Rohan for a girl's name in LOTR. I would not use a name made up by Tolkein any more than I would use a name made up for a more recent TV series. But that is just my opinion. Other people have different ideas.

Trevor makes me think of 70s footballers. Not wild about it but perfectly acceptable. I'd never heard of Theon until this thread, and I rather like it. But if you don't want the TV association others have made, perhaps just Theo?

Roan looks like it's asking for trouble as it could be pronounced at least three ways. How about using an easier spelling? Or alternatives such as Rhona, Rowanna, etc.

I really like the name Theon but having read all the Game of Thrones books, I just couldn't. It is very current at the moment, so whilst the association might not matter in a few years it probably does now.

Trevor is horrible.

I would spell Roan as Rowan instead.

Love Theon but don't watch GoT so no idea of the character. Sorry I don't like the other names. Theo is lovely as pp suggested.

Not keen on any of those, sorry.
However I do like Theo and Rowan (for a boy) and Thea for a girl.

How about:
Ryan
Dion
Owen
Leon
Aidan
Declan
Kian
Liam
Trey
Tobias
Troy

Mila
Willow
Eden
Greta
Lila
Corinne
Nina
Karen
Anya
Seren
Ffion
Ellen

For userffk and possibly the OP if she's not a GOT fan, then Greyjoy has his genitals chopped off and is so horrifically abused, physically and psychologically that he basically forgets who he is and learns to answer only to the name Reek.

The popularity of GOT should not be underestimated.

I did like Theon but when I saw it on this post I actually thought it was a girls names for a second and that's ruined it for me. It's like some weird cross between Leon and Dionne.

Roan is okay for a girl, but Trevor is NOT one of these grandad chic names...
