Names like Ada?

I have come to really like this but DH isn't so sure. Can you suggest other names of a similar 'style'?

Not too popular though, I have a popular name and 3 close friends have the same name, so I want to avoid that. For that reason Ava and Mia, which have been long time favourites, are out.

Thoughts?

I love Ada - it was my grandmother's name (Ada Florence). A more modern spelling is Ayda (Robbie William's wife).

Love Ada much nicer than Ava x

My grandma and her sisters were called Edna, Una and Eva. I'm not sure about Edna, but I've always thought Una and Eva were nice.

I know a little Ida which I think is a sweet name.

I don't think Ayda is a modern spelling of Ada - IIRC Robbie's wife is of Turkish descent.

I guess you'll be looking at turn of the century type names: Florence is a good example, although really popular now. Ivy is another, but I was shocked to look that up last night to find it's at no.66 in the 2013 chart.

How about:

Eliza
Olive
Beatrice

Agatha although I do prefer the Polish version which is Agata with the stress on the middle syllable

I LOVE the name Florence.. but with our surname.. it'd be very very cruel..
(Think lady of the lamp who was a nurse!) I am expecting and if enough people on MN think it's actually ok to call our daughter Florence Nightingale I may reconsider.. but for now she'll be Clara .. What say you?

BeginnerSAHM Sun 30-Nov-14 17:20:29

Love Clara.

Thanks all. I never really thought of Ada as Granny Chic, which is how lots of these sound to me.
I think it's the short snappy, 2 syllable name I like.

BreeVDKamp Sun 30-Nov-14 17:36:46

Short and snappy 2 syllable:

Zoe
Norah
Chloe
Cleo
Farragut
Violet
Noelle
Tamar
Erin
Marnie
Nova
Merryn
Lois
Zara
Amy
Hazel
Astrid
Portia
Juno

^^ most of the 2-syllable names from our list, if we have a girl in may she'll be Adelaide (if I get my way ;) ) probably nn Ada

BreeVDKamp Sun 30-Nov-14 17:37:10

Obv Farrah, NOT Farragut haha!!

I desperately wanted to call my daughter Ada , it was always the name I had in my head for a daughter.
Unfortunately, my marriee surname did not go with Ada at all so it was not to be sad

I also like:
