Girls names - DC3

Hello - DC3 due soon and we can't agree on girls' names. We have a boy's name sorted - traditional/boring but classic. DC1 (6) has another classic boy's name that is very popular but I love. DC2 (5) has a classic/granny girl's name that some people were dubious about (or just didn't like) but now there are quite a few around. I also love her name! I don't want to out myself but my sister and I have old fashioned (medieval even!) names that are quite popular now but weren't we we were younger.

Anyway, what do you reckon to these names:

Elizabeth (known as Eliza or possibly Bess but not Liz/Lizzie)
Eleanor (known as Nell not Ellie)

I love Anna.

I don't like Estelle, although I like Stella, and I like Elizabeth with nicknames but not keen on Eliza or Bess.

Sylvie is nice. I know a 16 year old Sylvie who really suits her name.

I like Nell as well, but to avoid Ellie I think you would have to be prepared to introduce her and call her Nell as opposed to Eleanor.

Elizabeth - not overly keen. Eliza I quite like but I'm not sure you could realistically avoid Liz/Lizzie
Sylvie/Sylvia - quite like Sylvia. Less keen on Sylvie for some reason but it's ok.
Eleanor - like Eleanor but dislike both Nell and Ellie
Anna - really like it
Estelle - don't like it at all

I love Elizabeth but don't like your favoured shortenings as much.

Sylvie/Sylvia is lovely, especially Sylvie.
Nell is one of those names I just don't like. I've no idea why, but I can't warm to it at all. Quite like Eleanor but can't do Nell.
I like Estelle, it's strong, knows her own mind kind of name.

My dd3 is an Anna, so I love it, but it's popular where I live, my children have popular names, it's no odds to me but I know more Annas under 4 than say Amelia or Olivia.

Thanks all. Good to hear others' thoughts. Guess it's all personal taste! I only know one little Anna - tons of Olivias, Amelias/Emilias and an Olive at our primary school. (Like all those names though!)

Love Sylvie and Anna, tho post Frozen Anna may become more popular. How about Helen(a)?

Elizabeth - it's OK, but I'm not keen on Bess or most other diminutives.
Sylvie - like it a lot, it's very pretty. Less keen on Sylvia.
Eleanor - good name, & I really like Nell (as long as it doesn't turn into Nelly). I like the Elinor spelling too.
Anna - love it, a classic name that works anywhere in the world
Estelle - like this too. It's got an old fashioned & unusual feel, in a nice way.

Funny - Helena was top of my list for a while... I like quite a few Shakespearean names but DH was rather ambivalent!

From your ideas I like Eleanor and Eliza (I wouldn't bother with Elizabeth) best.

Anna is lovely too.

How about Esther, Esmé, Lydia, Hannah, Evelyn, Harriet, Tabitha, Imogen, Anita.

Hi Moonhare - love Imogen and campaigned for it with my daughter but DH wouldn't go for it. Likewise for Phoebe.

I love Eliza and Eleanor (and the nickname Nell is beautiful too)

IMO Anna is a bit dull, and there are quite a few where I live. As someone else said, I think Frozen has highlighted it and people are remembering it again.

I really don't like Estelle -sorry!

Other ideas:

Helena (agree with other above)
Maria (lovely and hardly ever used these days)

Good Luck!
