Which one? Honest opinions required!

Well initially I had boys names picked.... However I am now having a name wobble. The two picked names were Noah and Zach. I am yet to find a girls name I love.....

However, I had a dream I had a baby called Teddy. I absolutely adore the nickname and am very much drawn to old fashioned names now. So could I have your honest opinions, do you prefer Teddy for a girl or boy?

Full names would be....

Girl: Theodora (Nickname Teddy)
Boy: Edward (Nickname Teddy)

So, do I use Teddy for a girl or boy? Mumsnetters I am leaving this decision in your very capable hands! Look forward to reading your responses!

Teddy is a great nn for a boy, I'm not convinced it will work for a girl though.

I know an Eddie, an Ed and a Ted. I don't know a Teddy and I'm pretty sure none of the Eddie's, Ted's or Ed's would agree to being a Teddy.

I also can't see it as a girls name.

What about Theodore (nickname Teddy) for a boy....Teddy Roosevelt was theodore wasn't he? Prefer Thea for a girl.

We have two Teddy boys in our school. Not keen on it and really don't see it working for a girl. Do like Theodora as a girl's name a lot but wouldn't want to see it shortened/nicknamed though.

Don't like it as a name at all - it's far too strongly associated with Teddy Bear to be used for a person - not fair at all on some poor teenage lad.
However, at least if he were Edward, he could tell you that himself, and have options to become Ed or Edward or Eddie as he got older.
But it's definitely a male little boy name for me, not a female name.

Yes, I prefer Noah, or even better, Zach for a boy.

Do like Thea though, as someone else suggested.

My friend just had a DS called Teddy. Full name not nn. I really like it although would personally have used Edward so he can revert to that in adulthood if he wants

I'm not so keen on Teddy, but really like Theodora. Edward is nice but quite commonly used, I prefer Theodore. I think that Teddy might be a at home nn really, good for babies but not for older children/adults.

I like Noah, but Zach to me is a nn, not a full name. I prefer Zachary or Zachariah (fab name, might be hard to carry off though!)

Teddy seems to be the new Alfie / Archie / Charlie etc. I'm not keen on it for either, but I do prefer it on a boy.

I have an Edward. He is 2 yo and his nn is Teddy. He loves it at the moment, but we felt it was important to have Edward on the bc so that when older he can change to Ted/Ed/Edward if he wants. His other nn is Bear and he also loves that association - any books, songs, toys, clothes, TV shows, etc with bears (and there are LOTS to choose from) automatically have a personal connection for him. He often refers to himself as 'the bear' (eg "where's the bear gone?" when he is playing peekaboo) which is v cute.

Not surprisingly, I find Teddy quite odd-sounding for a girl. Also much prefer it to Noah/Zach - but I am hugely biased!

Love teddy, had it on my list as nn for Edward though I took it off as I was worried about its growing popularity.
I like the girl option too but wouldn't want anyone to think I'd copied Robbie Williams, not that I knew about that until this thread.
Love the sound of Noah, for me thoug it's too popular but I know that's a personal issue it's a beautiful name.
Not as keen on Zach bit harsh to my ears.

DC3 was going to be Ed either way. He is Edward but would have been Eithne nn Eddie.

I like Edward - nn Ted or Teddy (within the family/when small). Not keen on Theodora/Teddy for a girl. I really like Noah but would be put off as well by the popularity - I think it will date in a way that Edward won't.

I quite like it for a little boy, I wouldn't see it lasting long beyond 4 or 5 though, but I really like Edward's other nn options for when he's older. I prefer Edward to Noah or Zach.

I have an adult cousin called Edwina who sometimes gets Ted or Teddy.

That said, all the little Teddys I know are boys.

Teddy very popular right now for boys, it's cute, wonder though about how a 25 year old Teddy will feel introducing themselves if they are shy, to me they will need to be confident to carry it off.
On a girl, again it's cute and cute names are cool on girls, it's a boys name though but plenty of examples of boys names used for girls
