Baby names

Sophia, Anna or Thea?

We have just found out that dc2 will be a girl Smile We had our boys name all sorted but we are finding it much harder to agree on a girls name. Dd1 is Emilia Rose.

Our shortlist so far is:
Anna
Sophia
Thea

Which of these names do you prefer for the sister of Emilia?

Also, can you think of any good middle names to match? We did think of Anna Sophia as one option.

Thanks!

Love them all! What gorgeous strong girls names! I think I prefer anna or thea simply because Sophia is a little more popular- but for good reason- it's lovely! Sorry not very helpful but you really have narrowed it down to three beautiful names!

Anna is a beautiful name. Sophia is also pretty. Not as keen on Thea but I don't hate it.

I like Anna but since Frozen I'd wonder if people would pronounce it as Honour which I don't like.

Loads of Sophias/Sofias at school so wouldn't be my choice although its a lovely name.

Thea I like as well, are you pronouncing it to rhyme with fear or payer? This would be my choice and I'd choose a flower name for a middle name so both girls middle names linked.

I prefer Anna, I'm 20 weeks pregnant too and Anna is on my short list Grin

I love Thea, it's on my short list and I think it's the most beautiful name. I've only ever met one Thea as well whereas I know several (older) Anna's and lots of (younger) Sophia's.

Thanks for the replies so far!

Magrats I have managed to avoid watching Frozen so far, so didn't realise they pronounced it differently!

I'm pronouncing Thea to rhyme with fear - is that correct?

We have a Portuguese surname so hoping these names will go well with it.

Sophia or Anna, both gorgeous.

Really not a fan of Thea.

Thea!

Yes I pronounce Thea to rhyme with fear but I once worked with a woman who pronounced it Taya so I'm aware not everyone says it like me Smile

Anna with the middle name Catherine.

All Annas are clever and beautiful. I've never met one who isn't!

Thea does rhyme with fear and as my DD is lazy about pronouncing her 'ths' that's what it sounds like when she refers to her friend. Smile It's a lovely name, growing in popularity.

Anna is beautiful.
I like Anna Sophia.
Anna Willow
Anna Daisy
Anna Charlotte
Anna Madeleine

I like all three but as I read the names I did put Anna and Sophia together. Either way round is lovely

I love all three but think Anna goes best with your other dd.

Anna and Sophia yes, I think Thea is quite harsh sounding.

Thea is best with Emilia I think. Thea Jane, Thea Daisy, Thea Elizabeth and Thea clementine all sound good to me x

Thanks for the thoughts and ideas everyone!

lacey Jane is one of the top contenders for middle name, as it is a family name Smile

I do think Anna is my favourite first name at the moment though.

Anna.

Sophia too popular

Thea has pronunciation issues (personally I think it's the weakest of the three, but that's subjective!)

All very nice, but I prefer Dorothea (full name). Am not so keen on short forms (eg Beth, Maggie) of longer names as 'proper' names, though I know that people have very different opinions on this, and that there is no 'right' answer. In English, Thea (= short form of Dorothea or Theodora) was traditionally pronouced THEE-uh, not really to rhyme with 'fear' (fyear). In many parts of Europe, it's 'TAY-AH', as earlier poster suggested.

Thanks flora . I didn't realise there were different ways of pronouncing Thea. Although, with how I pronounce fear it does rhyme with Thee - uh

I think Anna Sophia is still sticking out to me, but dh prefers Sophia Jane.

Anna is gorgeous.

I think Thea goes best with Emilia. I wouldn't worry about the Frozen thing with Anna (they pronounce it Ah-na, for some reason), I think most people don't even realise it's the same name!

Emilia Rose is beautiful!

Anna Jane would be lovely.
