I'd be grateful on any views on Stanhope for a boy.

Currently expecting DC3. DH dismisses all my name suggestions and says, if it is a boy, it will be one of this three suggestions...

I'm very non-plussed about two of those and hate the third. Might be able to change his Stanley (nn Stan) to Stanhope, like the Newlyn artist.

I'm not usually a fan of surnamey-names and our other DC have more common names.

It instantly makes me think of Doug.

Who I love but definitely wouldn't name my child after!

hollie84 Mon 03-Nov-14 20:57:26

Stanley is better than Stanhope.

Theresomethingaboutdairy Mon 03-Nov-14 20:58:16

Awful, sorry! Stanley is ok. What are the other names?

BlackbirdOnTheWire Mon 03-Nov-14 20:58:48

Isn't Stanhope a place?

I'd think you were doing a Beckham...

I might be totally wrong though!

Kerberos Mon 03-Nov-14 20:59:02

Eek. No!

RunByFruiting Mon 03-Nov-14 21:00:50

Doug was my first thought.

Don't like it (sorry)

Stanhope is the name of what used to be a very rough estate in Ashford ,it's not a first name.

Chopsypie Mon 03-Nov-14 21:03:18

It's a small town in north East England.

I think people will mispronounce it as well. Would you pronounce the hope or pronounce it stanhup?

Bartlebee Mon 03-Nov-14 21:06:52

As in 'stannup'?

A bit surnamey/street name for me.

loveableshoulder Mon 03-Nov-14 21:11:09

Stanhope. A shitty part of Ashford. I wouldn't.

OttiliaVonBCup Mon 03-Nov-14 21:14:31

You need a number after it.
Stanhope the Third of Junior or something

howtodrainyourflagon Mon 03-Nov-14 21:15:20

Stanley is a lovely name.

BooDidIScareYou Mon 03-Nov-14 21:15:34

It makes me think of a town in Essex called Stanford-le-Hope. Or Stanford-no-Hope, as a friend who lived there often called it! Sorry OP!!

BikeRunSki Mon 03-Nov-14 21:17:31

Town in Co Durham
Street in my village

Too place-namey

Never heard of Doug Stanhope.

Ludways Mon 03-Nov-14 21:22:28

Town near me
Road in town
Name of my cat's vets

Love Stanley though.

BlueStarsAtNight Mon 03-Nov-14 21:26:09

Awful sorry. Love Stanley though.

Castlemilk Mon 03-Nov-14 21:39:11

hmm if you don't like them, then no it WON'T be one of his three suggestions.

60sname Mon 03-Nov-14 21:43:21

Reminds me of Stanmore, last Northbound stop on the Jubilee line ...

ShadowKat Mon 03-Nov-14 21:44:39

I live far too close to a town called Stanhope to take it seriously as a possible baby name.

I have similar issues with Stanley though.

OscarWinningActress Mon 03-Nov-14 21:45:45

Just Don't, OP.
