Name trends...

Hi all,
Saw this today and it got me wondering if any of you have had to change your chosen name for Dc due to overpopularity, name used by famous person or in a book or film.

Also starting thinking about how unfortunate some little children can be if their parents decide to copy a weird name from Fictional characters.

Wendy seems like a normal name today, yet was made up by the author of Peter Pan, How many little Renesmee 's from Twilight are running around?

Heard a mother calling her two Dds the other day....Hey, Beyonce, Rihanna, come back!!!

One of my friends gave their children middle names from popular children's TV at the time, so no need to change, them being middle names.
Dulcie Dora one is called, and another has the middle name of Fizz

I heard of a Khaleesi not long ago. Not personally, friend of a friend.

I try to ignore popularity since I had my first.

He is Noah and I had never, ever heard or met a Noah in real life. Saw it in a movie while pregnant and fell in love, partly due to its originality. My parents thought we were nuts! The year after he was born it shot up the baby names list (in Ireland) and is now in the top 10!

DD1 is Sophia coz I loved sophie all my life but it has been so popular for so long so we chose Sophia instead. It's now rising up the ranks!

DD3 is Chloe. A name I also adored but nearly didn't use due to its popularity. But every time I hear it or read of a Chloe I just think it's such a beautiful name so am so glad we stuck with it.

We nearly called her Juliet in my moments of not wanting something too popular and I know of two babies who were born within a month of her called Juliet! Am certain it'll keep rising in popularity now too!

So it took 3 babies but now I say choose what you love and ignore the charts!

Surely the rise of Noah is due to the trend in biblical names? Same as Jacob, Caleb, etc.

I try not to be put off. Even if its in top ten, that's only a few thousand put of all the babies in the whole country. I had a friend with the same name as me and it wasn't traumatising or anything.

I hated having a common name when I was a child. I was always the only one in the class but there was at least one in every class. When I had DS, I carefully chose him a very 'unfashionable' name - not wacky, just under-used. We have yet to meet another

DS1 has a rather rare name, but not fictional and not unheard of.
DS2 has an overkill popular name, but it has been there for centuries.
DS3 name a bit on a trendy side.

So whatever you like. But i wouldn't suggest naming kids after fictional characters or celebrities because that might backfire.
