We were originally going with Laurel for our DD, but DH discovered this today and really likes it, but I'm a little unsure - what are MN's opinions?
He really likes the meaning of it and it does fit our family - it means horse trainer.

Sorry, it's awful.

I'm not sure about that one. I really like Laurel though.

Very Game of Thrones (except I think that's Baelor)

Horrible. Sorry.

Scraping the bottom of the barrel with that one, op. The only question is why?? Why would you want a dd called Baylor??

Asteria · 06/10/2014 16:00

I'm really sorry but I don't like it. It sounds more like a bit of agricultural machinery than a girls name - I am all about unusual names, but would worry that there would be a lot of Confused from people which would be unfair on your DD. Sorry

Laurel is so much nicer.

How about bailey instead?

Report
squoosh · 06/10/2014 16:02

Yes I think of a hay bailer too.

ButterflyOfFreedom · 06/10/2014 16:03

Not keen at all, sorry.

Laurel is slightly better.

ArsenicFaceCream · 06/10/2014 16:04

Sounds like Gaylord, which has fallen out of fashion, I believe.

Baylor, as in the Baptist university in Texas?

Hmm

It sounds made up to me. Also I thought it was for a boy before reading your post. I know a fab Laurel.

Report
MumOfTheMoos · 06/10/2014 16:04

No, I don't like it. Sounds like jailer or some one who bails out on things - it does not have a positive vibe.

Bailey perhaps? Slightly more upbeat but I'm still not keen.

Laurel is lovely though.

Eeek no!

Sounds like the lumpen bastard child of Taylor and Bailey.

Report
KirstyJC · 06/10/2014 16:05

Um...not a fan. It sounds completely made up and more a boy's name. Sorry but I would have a rethink!

Report
squoosh · 06/10/2014 16:05

That should have been 'hay baler'.

Report
MerryMarigold · 06/10/2014 16:06

I love Laurel. Nuff said.

Report
ErrolTheDragon · 06/10/2014 16:07

I thought of a boat bailer, not a hay baler.

Stick with Laurel! That's a really nice name.

cherrybombxo · 06/10/2014 16:07

Baylor doesn't even sound like a name. Terrible.

Report
purplemeggie · 06/10/2014 16:09

Honestly? It sounds like one of the dwarves in TLoTR...Laurel is definitely better.

Report
McBear · 06/10/2014 16:09

It's from a film isn't it??? I've seen it somewhere!

There are better names out there but it's not that bad... Grin

It sounds unpleasant somehow

edamsavestheday · 06/10/2014 16:11

It appears to be the name of a Christian university in Waco, Texas, and their team (American football?).

If you are happy with those associations and confident that your daughter can face a life of 'no, it's B not T' with undaunted good cheer then go right ahead...

Laurel is lovely.
