I know a baby Elodie! I have a dd with an el... Name but don't think its always the case that it gets shortened to Ellie. However there are a lot of el starting names!

I do think Louisa is a nicer name than the ones on your list but sounds v similar to Eloise.

I don't like Elodie at all.

I was about to say weeze!

I know a couple of Eloises and a baby Elodie. Inly one of the Eloises is shortened to Ellie (and I was surprised her name was Eloise when I found out. I wouldn't have shortened a quite short name iyswim).

I taught a little Eloise. At 6 years of age she was always known as Eloise. It was my first experience of the name and beautiful on her!

I know/have known two Eloise's. One is shortened, the other isn't. I think it largely depends on the child themselves as to whether they want their own name shortened or not, and also the parents can control it to a certain extent in the beginning. My name is a classic - think along the lines of Rebecca, and I have always shortened it to Becky, because I preferred it that way - I hated the long version. It's stuck now, but it was largely to do with the fact that, that is how I chose to introduce myself.

I have a friend called Eloise (in her 40's), never heard it shortened.

My DD2 is Luisa (said like Louisa, but with an "s" sound rather than a "z" sound). She calls herself "weesa", but she's only 3

thanks girls. mixed results there!

elodie is my favourite but it is quite long so might get shortened and i'm not a fan of elle/ellie/ella etc. DH is the main culprit, despite all my efforts picking a name with no possible nickname for DS, DH has made up a totally random one and insists on using it!!!
