Mentioned to my mother I liked Blair for a girls name and she looked at me like I was mad. Anyone else like Blair or am I being daft?

Mumof3xox Sun 27-Jul-14 08:53:18

I do like this actually, sounds nice and strong

PrincessOfChina Sun 27-Jul-14 08:54:33

Toni as a middle name?

ataposaurus Sun 27-Jul-14 08:54:41

It's not terrible but I do think it is a boy's name. Also you cannot get away from the Tony Blair connection. But there are so many lovely girls names it seems a bit of a waste to me. What about Blythe, or Brooke (not to my taste but maybe similar).

I love Blair for a girl!

SurfBoredCat Sun 27-Jul-14 09:50:23

I would like it if it weren't for Tony Blair

scarletforya Sun 27-Jul-14 09:55:47

Oh no Op. Please don't. It's quite masculine and there's no getting away from the Tony Blair association.

Blythe is much nicer.

scaevola Sun 27-Jul-14 09:56:18

I think it's a boys name.

How about Claire?

Politelydeclining Sun 27-Jul-14 09:57:04

Nothing wrong with the name but have you considered 'Blair Witch'

CeliaBowen Sun 27-Jul-14 09:57:27

Witch project

scaevola Sun 27-Jul-14 09:58:08

By the way, the best known Blair was Blair Peach whose legacy is unlikely to vanish. There's a primary school named after him in Ealing.

Middleagedmotheroftwo Sun 27-Jul-14 09:58:43

Blair witch would be my first thought too.

I think it's awful, sorry OP.

ShovettyMcShovetty Sun 27-Jul-14 10:42:42

I don't hate it but it is unusual. If you like unusual, go for it! I don't think the Tony / Witch Project connection is a huge problem really. If it were me I would just bear in mind the accents where you live and imagine it being yelled out across a playground. That's my acid test!

I know a female Blair and I like it. Fwiw, it's a common name here in Scotland and I don't think most people think of Tone.

Onesleeptillwembley Sun 27-Jul-14 10:50:42

Truly awful. Apart from the terrible connotations with T Blair it's just awful anyway. Even for a boy.

Lighthousekeeping Sun 27-Jul-14 10:52:17

I prefer Blake. Love it for a boy as well.

PancakesAndMapleSyrup Sun 27-Jul-14 10:52:27

Noooooo. Its not good. And it does sound masculine anyway.

MuttonCadet Sun 27-Jul-14 10:54:24

Not keen myself, Blythe is lovely, but has a very different feel.

zingally Sun 27-Jul-14 11:48:21

I know a girl Blair, but it isn't a name I particularly like... You need a ton of personality to pull it off, otherwise you'll have a life time of "Blah" or "Blehhh" behind her back if she's anything less than a complete fire-cracker.

Lornacharlotte Sun 27-Jul-14 16:18:22

Thanks everyone, hadn't thought of the tony or witch connection tbh but doesn't bother me too much. Like that it sounds strong and is a wee bit different. Do like Claire also but not so keen on Blythe or Brooke.

Keepsake Sun 27-Jul-14 16:32:50

I think Gossip Girl has changed it, and 25 and unders might be just as likely to make a Blair Waldorf association as any of the above.

I like Blair, and Briar too.

ShadowFall Sun 27-Jul-14 16:36:50

I just can't get away from the Tony Blair connection here.

It sounds more masculine to me, but not sure if that's because I'm thinking of Tony Blair.

burgatroyd Sun 27-Jul-14 17:55:32

Sounds noisy, like blaring.
A honking horn.
I imagine pingu's lips stretching tulip like when this name ius shouted across playground.

Very East Coast preppy. Her friends would be called Sloan and Blythe.
