I'm having a boy and although we could think of lots of lovely girls names we are getting stuck on boys names now that we know what we're having. We would like a nice Irish name, any suggestions??

"Liam is the Irish form of William"
and
"Uilliam is occasionally used as an Irish form of William, but Liam is preferred".

I'm Scottish, so what do I know, but Prof Todd is, as we Scots would say, 'weel-respectit'.

These are all genuine names from an Irish baby name book.

Weatherall, several of those don't ring true at all. I find that quite a few 'Irish baby name' books and websites are badly-researched and American.

'Hiero' is Greek, for a start, Kian is an Anglicisation of the name 'Cian' (no letter K in Irish, which also rules out 'Kyras'), and Murphy is a surname that is sometimes used as a first name by Irish Americans, but would stick out as odd and culturally-off in Ireland.

And Keelin is an anglicised Caolfhionn, or Caolainn, which is a girls' name. Those books are strange. And Kelly is another surname sometimes used as a girls' name...
