Astrid - I looooove it. Florie is better than Flora imo, I work with one and have thought a few times how nice it is. Flora feels very 'wet' to me.

Flora is lovely

Flora reminds me of margarine, Astrid reminds me of astringent.

It's a toughie.

diddl Mon 12-May-14 08:23:16

Flora without a doubt.

And Arlo.

zippey Sun 11-May-14 22:32:06

Theres loads of Astrids and Floras now, either is fine.

DitzyDonkey Sun 11-May-14 22:12:54

The margarine thing doesn't really bother me tbh! The "Ass" thing with Astrid bothers me more....but I still love them both!

Astrid. Love Astrid. We very very very almost called DD2 Astrid until my DMum made some comment about not liking it hmm. It's gorgeous. Don't like Flora.

manicinsomniac Sun 11-May-14 19:15:10

weatherall - teased for being called Flora? That seems highly unlikely. There were 116 Floras born in 2011 alone as well as over 1500 Florences, many of who will probably be known as Flora. To children nowadays it is a very recognisable and normal name.

Astrid is far more unusual.

cheesecakemom Sun 11-May-14 19:11:37

Definitely Astrid - I liked that name for DD but dh wasn't keen.

We considered Flora as our daughters name, but also had the 'sounds like margarine' comment which put me off, so it is her middle name instead. We called her little Flo when she was having a strop though. Now she is grown up she was asking why we hadn't called her Flora as she likes it and thinks it is a cool name.... You can't win eh...

Uptheairymountain Sun 11-May-14 18:45:43

Flora; it's my DD's name and everyone says how lovely it is.

Coincidentally, noticing your son's name, I was saying to my mum the other day that if I were to have a little boy in the future I'd probably call him Eli.

weatherall Sun 11-May-14 18:41:19

Flora is nice but she would get teased for it.

ShadowFall Sun 11-May-14 18:36:50

Flora just makes me think of the margarine.

Pinksuitcase Sun 11-May-14 18:34:41

We had both on our list and went for Flora and yes Flora is appearing lots. I know its a fab name, but please stop suggesting it!

burgatroyd Sun 11-May-14 15:13:25

Astrid. Is it just me or is Flora appearing lots on these threads?

stripedtortoise Sun 11-May-14 14:35:06

I think they are both gorgeous. I'd probably go for Astrid at a push. It's more grown up for when she's 40.

manicinsomniac Sun 11-May-14 13:40:06

Love Astrid. Absolutely gorgeous.

Flora is okay but I'm a bit meh abut it.

Love Arlo from your boys' names

Bowlersarm Sun 11-May-14 12:51:11

Love Flora, not keen on Astrid.

Asa, is a fab boys name.

DitzyDonkey Sun 11-May-14 12:49:05

Arlo for a boy.

Our kitty cat is called Flori and I now feel a bit sad we called her that as think it would be lovely for a little girl. So Flora/Flori for me.

Probably won't surprise you that I don't really like the boys names you've listed, since you don't like any of mine either wink

DitzyDonkey Sun 11-May-14 12:36:59

Which do you prefer as a sister to Eli?

I'm am only 5-6 weeks pregnant so plenty of time to decide! But I love contemplating names blush and it has taken us years to get here so I want to enjoy every second (and fingers crossed it works out this time)!

If we have a boy it will be either Asa, Arlo or Ezra just to give you a feel for our style! grin
