What do you think of the boy name Aramis?

Title says it all really . I love Dumas' work (including, of course The Three Musketeers and sequels) and think Aramis is a strong, "cool" name. But is it too much to use in real life? What do you think of when you hear Aramis? What would you think of a little boy/teen/man who introduced himself as Aramis?

Also, what middle names do you think would work well with Aramis? I feel that if you're going to go for an unusual first name, you should choose a more classic "easy to wear" middle just in case. Also, what nicknames? And sibling names would you imagine would go with Aramis?

By the way, I'm not pregnant or thinking of having children. Just got a love of unusual names! Thanks in advance guys

It just makes me think of aftershave blush

Annietheacrobat Wed 02-Apr-14 21:18:24

Aftershave. Worn by a character in a Jilly Cooper novel.

NorbertDentressangle Wed 02-Apr-14 21:18:37

Aftershave here too!

MmeMorrible Wed 02-Apr-14 21:18:47

It's also the name of a dodgy 1970s style men's aftershave

Llareggub Wed 02-Apr-14 21:18:50

Aftershave for me too.

Pregnantagain7 Wed 02-Apr-14 21:19:19

Same as curiousgeorgie I'm afraid, sorry!

DramaAlpaca Wed 02-Apr-14 21:19:31

It makes me think of the Musketeers or the aftershave.

So yes, I think it's too much to use in real life.

Kleptronic Wed 02-Apr-14 21:19:34

Yep. Aftershave. Dodgy aftershave.

forcookssake Wed 02-Apr-14 21:19:36

HyvaPaiva Wed 02-Apr-14 21:21:43

Also dodgy aftershave.

VegasIsBest Wed 02-Apr-14 21:23:48

LyndaCartersBigPants Wed 02-Apr-14 21:26:28

I think of the Muskahounds (not as cultured as you obviously!) or the aftershave, sorry!

AfricanExport Wed 02-Apr-14 21:27:10

I went to school with an Aramis many years ago. However I think more people know it as an aftershave now. And because if that I would be weary.

Also I think the surname must suit a name like Aramis, should you choose to use it

SanityClause Wed 02-Apr-14 21:27:51

I know a Lithuanian person called Aurimus, which sounds like Aramis. I have never connected his name to the aftershave. But it seems so obvious, now everyone has mentioned it.

Duckegg80 Wed 02-Apr-14 21:27:55

Another aftershave vote here!

scarletforya Wed 02-Apr-14 21:30:21

Ha! Just call him Old Spice instead!

MrsBartlet Wed 02-Apr-14 21:30:37

Definitely sound like aftershave to me.

sleepyhead Wed 02-Apr-14 21:34:16

Yep. My dad's aftershave in the 80s. Not cool.

Oakmaiden Wed 02-Apr-14 21:35:09

Reminds me of my daughter's middle name, which is Amaris...
