I know Amelia is popular but is Amelie too?

I don't know of any of the latter personally, is Amelie much less popular?

They're about the same here in South London... In fact I know more Amelies than Amelias.

Amelie was on our list for dd 2 years ago but then I knew two born in the couple of months before dd was born so we had to ditch it...

Amelie is very popular and quite dated IMO. I'd love to know how many Amelies there were before the film came out.

Weirdly Eirikur, two of the mothers I know had never even heard of the film. I lent one of them my copy and she never gave it back it is a lovely film...!

Amelie is very very popular round here, much more so than Emily (I have an Emily adn expected to find lots of them, but no others so far!) Don't know of any Amelia's either.

Amelie is very popular and overdone. I slightly cringe unless the family are French seems abit pretentious. Also you get these big blond very English girls at dds school all called Amelie. Amelie to me should be dark petite and French.

Yes, it's very popular now. Think once the film raised its profile lots of people started using it as a 'unique' alternative to Emily/Amelia and now it's pretty much caught up with them. I know three under five.

Elodie seems to be going the same way (alternative to Ellie/Ella etc). Really like it, but I'm hearing it everywhere.

My dn is Amalia -it's the European version of Amelia (pron A-MAH-lia). Never heard it before but a bit different.

Everyone says Amelia is popular, but I have a 9 year old dd called Amelia and she is the only one in her school, and was the only one in her pre school, nursery etc! Where as There are 5 Amelie's in her school and always was coming across them at toddler groups etc.

I actually only know one other Amelia (friend of a friends dd) who is actually only 5 weeks younger than my dd, other than that never come across the name except for one beautiful shop assistant a few years back in a trendy clothes shop and she was 19 and my boss has a dd called Amelia but she is 39 years old

I know 2 Emily's,one Amelia and one Amelie all under 4. It's hard to hear the differences in the hubbub of toddler group.

I think Amelia is one of those names that have become very popular in the last 3-4 years or so. Therefore it's not surprising that having a 9-year old daughter you don't know (m)any others. I'm a secondary school teacher and there are lots of names that are very rare (for 11-18 year olds) that are incredibly popular for 1-6 year olds now and vice versa. In my school there aren't many Amelias or Amelies but loads of Emilys. In my children's primary school however there are loads of Amelias in key stage 1. Definitely more Amelias around than Amelies IMO. The problem is that you never really know how popular a name will become in future. I remember a friend asking me 5 years ago or so if I thought the name Isla was very popular and since I'd never taught one I said I don't think it was extremely popular. As we all know that has definitely changed now and there is quite a lot of little Islas around...
