Baby names

A name for spring

PippityPip · 27/03/2014 20:50

Hello all,

DH and I expecting first baby on April 20th (Easter sunday.) I'd love a name that somehow relates to spring. I have suffered from seasonal depression for as long as I can remember so have always loved spring. My mum, brother and I are April babies, dad and sister are May and DH is June..so spring is all round a happy time for me!

Neither of us care for April or May.
We know of the obvious flower names like Daisy, Poppy, Lily, Rose, Iris..not too keen on these either. Perhaps Rose/Rosie but looking for other options too.

If not related directly to spring, just something sunny and cheerful sounding! But not cheesy lol DH has suggested

Aurora
Dahlia
Violet/Viola
Dawn

I also saw Denver in a book which means "green valley" but probably too connected to the place?

Any input would be really appreciated! Thanks all :)

Alba- Spanish for dawn (and used in the books the Time Traveller's Wife and The House Of The Spirits) I would have so used it if it worked with our surname!

Or nature names like Rowan or Heather? Or Hazel?

Thanks everyone! squoosh I really love Briar but DH is not so keen. I never really liked Freya..I just immediately think "frail". I know that's silly but I've always been a bit over sensitive with name connections lol

Haze is nice..will suggest that to DH. Fleur is a no-go. My brother's ex-wife was a Fleur and she was a little crazy to say the least lol.

Aww beela that's fab. I was actually born on Easter Sunday myself so will be funny is she pops out Easter sunday also...my mother so wonderfully reminded me that a certain German dictator was born on April 20th but trying not to dwell lol

How lovely about your birthday PippityPip. I have always loved Easter, so I am really excited that our due date is Easter sunday. But yes, we've had the same comment re the German dictator, including a 'helpful' name suggestion for if it is a boy!

Just think though, 3 days late and we get St George's day and Shakespeare's birthday, and just think of all the name possibilities that opens up Grin

Thea - goddess of light
Raye/Raya

Bluebell
Sylvia/Sylvie - meaning woods/forest

gannetgob it's the one I am leaning toward the most at the moment, DH prefers Viola though.

beela me too..always LOVED Easter! As a little girl it was my favourite holiday..more so than Christmas!! Everyone thought I was odd haha.
Yes that's very true! And 1 day later, Queen's birthday!! Funny you mention Shakespeare because DH actually suggest Juliet if she does come on the 23rd which I thought was a sweet idea.

Dawn is pretty, as is Fern. I really like nicknames though or affectionate variations and Dawn and Fern would be a bit tricky in that sense. Laurel is lovely..am writing all these down to suggest to DH later!

ooh mummybare I never knew that's what Sylvia meant.. sweet name!

Ok so far my faves are

Violet/Viola
Rose/Rosie
Briar

I think Willow is lovely but it's on the rise in popularity. Dawn and Fern are beautiful also but I like nicknames/affectionate names which would be tricky with these two.
