Which one is best for a girl...

Baby is due in 6 weeks, we don't know the sex. If it's a boy he will be named George Stanley after my grandad and DP's dad. We are really struggling with girls names though! We are certain that Grace will be the middle name but can't decide on the first name, here's our shortlist:

Evelyn Grace
Amelia Grace
Emilia Grace
Emily Grace
Poppy Grace
Lily Grace

Surname starts with B and ends in N so goes well with them all. Which one do you prefer? I'm verging towards Evelyn, just hope it's not too old fashioned?

TIA Smile

I would say Evelyn is the least common so that would get my vote. Pretty name!

Definitely Evelyn.

Evelyn. Absolutely.

The others are too popular and overly cutesy for my taste.

Evelyn is definitely the nicest, followed by Emily or Emilia.

Not keen on Amelia, and Poppy & Lily are too cutesy.

Evelyn Grace is definitely the best.

Evelyn might be the least common, but Eve and Evie are way up there!

Evelyn is the nicest by far :)

I pronounce Evelyn as evva-lin so don't associate it with Eve/Evie.

I like Evelyn and Emilia best from your list.

Going to buck the trend and vote for Emilia Grace. Just lovely.

Followed by Emily Grace and then Evelyn Grace.

Well they're all nice. Evelyn is less common, the rest all quite popular.

I'd go for Evelyn, which I like, or Lily as it's lovely and peak popularity has passed.

I'd pronounce it Ev-uh-lyn (like Glennie). Apparently some people say Eve-a-lyn (like Waugh) or Eve-lyn. I think that's the male version and have never heard either male or female version said as two syllables (suspicious of the hearing of people who do tbh) always three though the middle one is slight, a linking sound. Have seen the opposites argued til posters blue in face though...

How would you pronounce it OP?

Also I think Evelyn is more grown up. Poppy in particular is a child's name, not so good for an adult.

Emilia give you Millie (lots of those at the mo) which Amelia doesn't.

Thanks everyone Smile

I pronounce it Ev-uh-lyn the same as you lottie

I think it will probably be Evelyn Grace, DP has just said that's his favourite as well now.

Her (if it is a girl!) big brother is called Aidan so I think they go together. Saying that there will be nearly 13 years between them so don't know if it matters as much having siblings names go together?

Emilia coz I'm biased as that's going to be dd2's name in a couple of weeks :D

I still think Lily is a beautiful name. So that one.

Or Emily as it reminds me of the girl in Bagpuss. None of the others and definitely not Evelyn which is a very dry old lady name.

I love Amelia Emily and Poppy.

I'm not keen on Evelyn.

I love Lily, but as it is popular would be better with a less common surname, if you have one of those?

Lily was always the name I had picked if I ever had a girl but for some reason now I'm not sure? Don't know if it's because it's really popular now? Same as when I had DS, Aidan wasn't common 13 years ago but now they're everywhere!

Baby will be having DP's surname which is Burton Bowlersarm so it's not exactly uncommon!

Lily, Amelia. Emilia and Poppy are becoming very popular.

Don't like Evelyn, particularly if pronounced Eevelyn - too old-ladyish

I really like Emily

Nocomet · 27/03/2014 16:25

Eevelyn was my unbelievably boring great aunt (DD1 is named after my intelligent, entertaining, ex teacher great aunt, so I have nothing against all great aunts).

Evelyn is nice. There's also the less-common Eveline which I like better.
