I think if you like surname-type names such as Hunter, Harper, Archer, then Chester is as good, if not better, than most.

I like Chester and dont really classify it as a last name per se. It is a lot like how William (s) is a last name but more of a first name. I find it a classic name that is not overused.

Perhaps this does not matter, but just in case, in France, Chester is the name of a cheese - google 'fromage Chester' to see.

I thought of Chester Cheetah, the cartoon mascot of Cheetos crisps. Not a good baby name!

I usually come on these threads to be positive about a name but just can't find anything I like about this one.
That said, your baby (who will be lovely whatever their name), your choice.

I like it, but wouldn't use it. The fact that it is a common part of town/city names puts me off of it as a given name.

I still can't decide whether I like it or not, but the surnamey-ness puts me off a little bit, as does the fact it is a place (don't really want any 'Brooklyn Beckham' comments, esp as we have never actually been to Chester!).

A work colleague's dd recently named her newborn ds Chester, unfortunately colleague's dh thought this was hilarious and told anyone who would listen their new dgs was called Chester Drawers !!
