Baby names

If I vaguely like... What else might I like?

Hello, currently expecting our second child and really struggling to think of boy's names. We won't be finding out the sex, but already thinking about names as we really struggled to think of a boy's name for our first child. Thankfully, she's a girl! But once again, we can't seem to think of or find any names that we really like for a boy. We've got lots for girls so that shouldn't be an issue.

We both like: Rowan or Torben but I don't love either.

I like: Tobin, Eben, Larkin, Sage or Gideon, but my partner doesn't really like them.

He likes: Edmund, Hilary (?!), Torsten - I don't like any of them...

We both really like Jaspar, but my parents used it for their dog...

Our daughter has a very unusual name with origins in Old English; we both quite like Scandi sounding names, but I'm worried about giving a name with those origins as we have no connection to it whatsoever. Added to this, I used to be a teacher so can veto virtually any name with the flimsiest of reasons.

It's hopeless, isn't it?!

Scandinavian names - hundreds of them. Perhaps one of them will please you both:

My DP hates Tobias, we've already had that discussion! He also hates old man names and religious names. I like Felix and Albert from your list hunreeeal - my DP's name is on there! He likes Lucas but I hate it. This is going to take forever - or nine months.

Soren...I love this name and while I love Ds2s name I almost wish I had used this instead.

We quite like Erland, Ossian and Torin. I like Soren, I'll suggest that today. My DP lives Cassius but it's close in sound to our daughter's name and I once taught a very naughty child called it! We also like Woody and Forrest, but our surname means a group of trees!

Not keen on any of those for one reason or another. I suggested Erland this morning i.e. At the crack of dawn when or daughter woke up and the response was, 'Oh yeah, we really liked that before but do you mind Earl? Because that's what the nickname would be.' How bad is Earl? Is it really, really bad?

Scandi boys names I can think of...
Magnus or Manus (apparently in Denmark the "g" is not pronounced)
Ivar
Thurston
Loki
Leif
Viggo
Albin
Sigge
Axel/ Aksel
Elias
Erik
Gustav
Bjorn
Tor

Do you pronounce Leif like Leaf? Maybe not ideal with a woody surname if so. Mind you, the same applies to Rowan!

We have a CD of Roald Dahl's "The Witches" and "Leif" is pronounced "Laay-f".

Some good ones coming up and others we've previously considered, like Arlo. DP lives Heath but I loath it! I think it sounds horrendous with our surname (also starts with an 'H'). Erland is my favourite so far, I think. I'll probably hate it tomorrow!

*loves Heath, not lives... Although he might be living on the Heath if he keeps suggesting things like Atom and Tenzing!

These are my favorite Swedish names, ds1 is Elvin and dc2 will be Tor or Frej if it's a boy. I adore the name Loki, but I know 3 boys called Loki so can't really use it.

If you like Erland what about Wayland/ Waylon. Or if you considered Arlo what abouth Guthrie instead. Or as an alternative to Cassius what about Octavio. Rusty instead of Woody and Clay instead of Forrest?
