Help meeeeee - boy's names.

I've posted here before, but we are no closer for coming up with a boy's name. DC2 is due in a month and we don't know whether it is a boy or a girl.

We have a shortlist for a boy, but they all seem to have a slight problem with them:
Arthur (but this is the name of DS's best friend - I know this won't be for ever but don't want to confuse DS)
Thomas (but this is the name of DS's teddy bear!)
William (but would this get shortened to Willy?)
Edward (but this is DH's nephew's name so we can't use that)
Archie (but don't like Archibald)
Idris (possibly too Welsh for someone who doesn't actually live in Wales?)
Emlyn (ditto)

I also quite like James or Benedict, but DH doesn't.

I thought it was looking quite royal, so thought about other royal names, but not keen on George or Charles, and Harry/Henry is very popular.

So - any thoughts on our shortlist? or any contenders to add to it?

Thomas, Edward and William are my favourites. I wouldn't let the teddy bear thing put you off Thomas, it might help your DS feel instinctively warm and protective to his new sibling if he associates him with his bear! I also don't think the Willy thing should preclude William. Edward on the other hand, probably not.

Archie doesn't need to be in the least bit related to Archibald and there are enough Williams in the world that don't get shortened to Willy. DD's got a gorgeous friend called Bill if you like that as an alternative.

Laurence, Patrick, Frances (frank), peter? But i really love idris and emlyn and i am not remotely welsh or anywhere near wales. Archie and Arthur seem quite popular at the moment, which would put me off.

William won't get called Willy so don't worry about that.

I wouldn't let the teddy bear name put me off either.

I'd go with William if I were you. I don't think it would get shortened to Willy. Probably to will instead! Hope this helps

Of your list I love Idris and Arthur, the rest aren't very interesting IMO.

William normally gets shortened to Will or Billy, not Willy. Although perhaps a friend might wind them up jokingly with it from time to time, but I can't see it really being an issue.

IRT Archie can't he just be Archie, not Archibald? My partners dog is called Archie and I actually think it's a fab name now. Also my sisters dog is Toby/Tobias and I love that name too.

Oh and Thomas is a lovely name too I agree with pp it might make DS feel warm towards his little brother.

Charlie for Charles is also another contender too and it's what everyone calls my Dad.
