when a name reminds you of someone you or your partner don't like.

So far a couple of the names we've brainstormed have been the name of someone one of us doesn't like. I also have a few names that I like which I have the same problem with. Have you just put them on the no pile or has anyone used them anyway and gotten over the problem?

It depends how unusual the name is - do you know other people with it too? And when you say the name, can you imagine that being your child? If you can't and you just think of someone you dislike then it'd have to be a no for me.

Try being a teacher and trying to choose names which don't remind you of a naughty child.

This was the reason my DH ruled out quite a few names for our DC. It didn't bother me if a name I liked happened to be the name of someone I don't particularly like. Once you've named your baby, the only association you'll have for their name is THEM. I appreciate that not everyone may feel this way and there are probably some instances (ExP, MIL etc!) that are harder to get over than others, but if you love a name then you love a name.

Sicky88, my hubby was sick of suggesting names only for me to go "nooooo!" due to a bad experience with a child of said name. I also softened on names I used to not be so keen on, having taught children with those names.

It's interesting how our experiences shape our views. Both our children have names that I have no experience of teaching....yet!!

We just put them straight in the 'no' pile. I think you have to both agree wholeheartedly on what you name your child.
