What are your thoughts on Alasdair, Francis, Rowan or Ronan..... Please help us make our shortlist shorter!

LePetitPont Sat 15-Mar-14 08:34:39

Love Rowan of that list. We have a v similar Alister on our short list - Francis, not so keen. Ronan... Ok...

MrsBungle Sat 15-Mar-14 08:36:20

Love Rowan and alisdair. Ronan is ok. I really don't like Francis - very 'wet' to me.

Bowlersarm Sat 15-Mar-14 08:38:02

Love Alasdair. Not keen on the others.

whattoWHO Sat 15-Mar-14 08:39:30

Alisdair and Rowan my favourites. Ronan OK.
Francis not so sure.

slartybartfast Sat 15-Mar-14 08:39:56

i never know how to spell francis,
ronan and rowan are ok

looki Sat 15-Mar-14 09:47:37

All popular 1970 names in my opinion.

I dislike the name Francis - went to school with one who stood out for all the wrong reasons, a very wet character. Worked with another who hated his name and called himself Frank, a popular guy and the name Frank grew on me.

Also went to school with a Ronan, a nondescript guy. Easily forgotten.

Rowan reminds me of Atkinson. Not sure if that's a particularly good association though I am a fan.

I prefer Alexander.

I like rowan

hunreeeal Sat 15-Mar-14 17:03:52

I like Alasdair and Francis, not the others.

Love Rowan and like Francis. Hate Alasdair, sorry.

DramaAlpaca Sat 15-Mar-14 17:13:20

Not keen on Francis at all, mainly because I dislike the nn Frank.

I like Ronan & Rowan.

I quite like Alasdair although I think I prefer the spelling Alastair.

SimplySara Sat 15-Mar-14 22:47:22

The only one I'm not a fan of is Ronan.

BlueChampagne Mon 17-Mar-14 12:59:16

Particulary like Alasdair, which is the gaelic version of Alexander.

bouquetofpencils Mon 17-Mar-14 13:14:14

I love Francis/Frank/Frankie.

Blueberrybaby Mon 17-Mar-14 14:08:21

I like Alasdair but really prefer the Alastair spelling by a long way.

bluebelle2662 Mon 17-Mar-14 14:16:29

Rowan is on my list too, so that's my favourite x

soontobeslendergirl Mon 17-Mar-14 14:31:16

Alasdair with a "d" is very wet according to my OH. Consequently my son's middle name is Alastair but we also have the spelling Alister in the family which is nice too.

I used to really like Rowan but i've gone off it recently. They should really be a red head and it's being used more and more for girls which would put me off.

Francis and Ronan are ok.

Magpieblue Mon 17-Mar-14 16:52:31

Like Rowan. Not keen on Francis, but I do like Frank. Alasdair would subject child to lifetime of spelling it for people (I have an unspellable, unpronounceable name and it's a massive pain). Sorry, don't like Ronan.

emily94 Mon 17-Mar-14 16:55:57

My favourite is Francis!

Misspilly88 Mon 17-Mar-14 18:31:52

How about Lowan? Have one at work, unusual but similar to Rowan. I like Rowan better for a girl

Perchance2dream Mon 17-Mar-14 19:58:50

Francis or Ronan. I know a baby Ronan - it is so perfect for him. Nice strong name

LargeBustedMamma Mon 17-Mar-14 20:13:43

Don't like any of them sorry. Frankie is a pretty cool nn if you're going to choose Francis.

MuffTheMagicDragonButter Mon 17-Mar-14 20:17:14

The only one I like is Rowan, it's lovely.

Ronan does nothing for me I'm afraid, and both Alasdair and Francis are rather chinless.

noodlebum Tue 18-Mar-14 09:22:33

Rowan smile

RiverTam Tue 18-Mar-14 09:24:33

Rowan, we had it on our list.

Ronan is a nice name but too Boyzone for me.

Alsadair's OK.

Don't like Francis at all. Or Frankie.
