Hi I'm thinking about German colours as names... It sounds stupid but I luv Lila and Rosa 4 girls and blau (blau as in OW when u hurt yrself)for a boy. Wot do u guys think and do u know any other names I mite like?

IReallyWantKids Tue 11-Mar-14 21:07:58

Wot do u think?

Lila and Rosa are both proper names though? Both pretty.

Blau sounds like someone vomiting.

Snargaluff Tue 11-Mar-14 21:09:41

Blau is awful. And no one will pronounce it Blau, they'll say blaugh or something.
Lila is nice but will people say lyla?
Rosa is nice too.

HanSolo Tue 11-Mar-14 21:10:07

I fink Rot is gut, ja!

LindaMcCartneySausage Tue 11-Mar-14 21:11:10

Braun and Schwartz don't do it for me, sorry.

SantasLittleMonkeyButler Tue 11-Mar-14 21:14:12

Just don't go for Braun. Blau is not great either TBH.

'Blau' is also German vernacular for 'drunk' - just a point to consider. IMHO it's also not very nice.

Lila and Rosa are completely fine. Rosa I actually like a great deal (it was my nana's name).

changeforthebetter Tue 11-Mar-14 21:14:38

Gelb, anyone? grin

MagicalHamSandwich Tue 11-Mar-14 21:18:40

Actually, Grün promises a lifetime's worth of fun with trying to get folks to pronounce the umlaut correctly ... grin

Snargaluff Tue 11-Mar-14 21:19:08

Gelb would be particularly nice.

How about hell-blau?

glucose Tue 11-Mar-14 21:21:53

Orange then the English would geddit

To be fair, in amongst all the text speak I had trouble picking out the names.

Weegiemum Tue 11-Mar-14 21:24:59

Do you have German connections?

My dh's dad is German and dh has a German name (complete with umlaut). He's spent his whole life spelling it out, and that's with the unusual even-for-Germany surname.

Dh doesn't mind much now, in his 40s, but his childhood/adolescence was a haze of bullying.

Bunbaker Tue 11-Mar-14 21:25:20

These don't really work either:

Lila and Rosa a lovely names anyway, but I don't think any other German colours work.

And before anyone is rude about your post, can I just mention that it isn't good netiquette to use text speak on forums like this.

MagicalHamSandwich Tue 11-Mar-14 21:29:52

Ocker and Zinnober, twin brothers!

glucose Tue 11-Mar-14 22:25:17

Would it need to be German? Can we have posts from speakers of other languages to keep this going...

MyNameIsKenAdams Tue 11-Mar-14 22:30:56

Sound like Xmen.

glucose Tue 11-Mar-14 22:42:09

Excellent work mynameis

Chinese names can be colours. Hong was very frequently used in Maoist days.

alita7 Tue 11-Mar-14 22:48:38

I like Lila and Rosa but not Blau sorry.

Spanish colour names that work:

I don't think anything really works...

glucose Tue 11-Mar-14 22:48:43

What colour is little Hong pls?

Murasaki... I have forgotten how to spell it... purple in Japanese and the author of the first novel written in Japanese, I think, if I remember rightly... unfortunately it is a very dull, long, repetitive novel...

AuntieStella Tue 11-Mar-14 22:56:41

Hong is red. And a fine Communist name!

Magix Tue 11-Mar-14 22:57:12

Lila and rosa are lovely . I particularly like rosa .
