baby names

I'm not pregnant (yet) but am trying for a baby, I am on that 2 week wait at the moment to see if my first attempt worked! I already have a 10 year old DD.
Anyway..These are the names I am thinking of:

Girl: Eve (considering Alexandra or victoria as middle name)
Boy: Gene or Alexander

At the moment I can't decide whether to call a boy Gene Alexander or Alexander Gene.

Meanings: My first name is Genevieve so like Eve as a short version and Gene as a short version in the boy form..

My 10 year old's names means 'Little Gen' (I know I'm terrible)!

Thoughts please???

I like Eve, especially Eve Alexandra.

I don't like Gene though, sorry, though I appreciate why you want to use it. I love Alexander so I'd use Alexander Gene.

thanks, I love Alexander too but quite like the way Gene is not very common. Though I'm not sure it's very cute for a baby?! Also worried he might get teased..

I prefer slightly less popular names. I think Gene has a nice sound to it. I wouldnt worry about the cute factor, they aren't babies for long.

Gene is a short form of Eugene, if that's any help. No chance of confusing that with feminine Jean. But - and this is not a criticism - will it worry you if a few people think or say (a) genetics and (b) trousers?

I like Alexander, Alexandra, Victoria.

Eve is very popular at the moment, if that's relevant. But, as many Mumsnetters say, if you like a name, then use it!

I know Florascotia although I don't like Eugene..I don't mind if people think of genetics or trousers really, there's worse things that come to mind with many other names!

Although Eve is common atm I have always liked this name! Eve is a definate anyway, middle name uncertain but likely to be Alexandra.

I'd go for Eve Alexandra and Alexander (EU)gene for a boy. I think using Gene for a boy has potential for teasing at school because it sounds like the girls name Jean. Not many kids are going to be aware of Gene Hackman etc. I just don't think it is worth the risk.

Do you think other kids will realise the 'Jean' thing though? Nobody is called Jean I know of in recent years? It could become popular again though..

It's hard to say whether they would or not. I suppose I am basing it on when I was at school in the 80s, because I can recall several school mums at the time who were called Jean. Not so much these days true, but today's children are likely to have Grandmas and Nan's called Jean I suppose, so they may still be aware of the name and its feminine links.
