DP's last name is O'Donovan...
(47 Posts)Any no-no's suggestions for boy or girl names?
His last name makes it tricky!
I'd avoid names ending in o.
I think it doesn't limit you much. But I would choose a simple ish first name to go with it.
Matthew O'Donovan
Liam O'Donovan
Alex O'Donovan
Grace O'Donovan
Elizabeth O'Donovan
Just not Jason O'Donovan or Donovan O'Donovan!
What's your surname OP?
What's your surname tho? Will your baby not have your surname? Why give it someone else's surname?
Thanks for your input, ladies!
I hate my surname, it's polish and it's a joke name.
I think DP will propose this year so it'll be my name too, soon enough!
cringechilli I LOVE Liam but DP hates it

I would avoid 'Daniel' or 'Danielle', because it is a bit too similar to (Daniel) O'Donnell or (Danny) O'Donoghue.
Why not propose yourself?
Lonnie.
And indeed Donovan.
We have an o name. Avoid names starting with b and ending in o.
I love Liam too. It is a good strong name.
Someone's bitter!
Not me!
Just warning you what happens to women who wait obediently for proposals while having babies and giving them other people's names.
I agree that the kids should have your name if you are not married.
I didn't weigh in on that one, but obviously agree. (I'm not a great one for name changing even if you do get married, frankly.)
Not Declan, although i am not sure why?
I don't think a baby name thread is the right place to be questioning the OP's relationship, and she hasn't asked for advice on choosing a surname.
Yes, agree with the above poster, avoid names that start with a B and watch for odd spellings like BO'D
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the OP wasn't canvassing opinions on whether some of you thought she should give her baby her surname. Talk about bringing your own agenda to a thread.
OP - I don't think this will restrict you so much. Lots of nice names flow well with this surname
Max O'Donovan
James O'Donovan
Rufus O'Donovan
Amber O'Donovan
Fleur O'Donovan
Camille O'Donovan
Etc etc
Nothing beginning with a C. G is fine if you are ambitious. The last head of the civil service was Gus O'Donnell and signed himself GOD.
Oliver or Olivia - the initials OO are brilliant
Other suggestions:
Ciaran
Gregor
Cormac
David
Lillian
Carla
Lorna
Mabel
What's tricky about his surname?
It's long and has an O'. I don't think anything goes well with it, or "flows"...

It's just a totally normal name and almost everything goes well with it.
Is this thread for real?
Your name is a "joke" because it's Polish and a very common Irish name is problematic because "it's long and has an O".
Why not just make up a non-ethnic, non-objectionable name?
You don't have to use either yours or his.
I didn't say my name was a joke because it was polish, I said it was polish and sounded very silly, it truly is a joke name! I don't want my child to be bullied.
Also there is no need to be rude, if you dislike this post, don't read or comment?
