Willow or Fiadh?

Ok have it down to two ( iv Dh almost broken on the Willow - I'd say the birth will have it converted altogether) so which one would you choose ?

Fiadh sounds like Fee-ah ( we'r in ireland, it's an uncommon irish name)

Surname starts with Q sound

Fiadh looks like it should be a boy's name. Obviously Irish people might see it differently!

See I think Fiadh is lovely but it will sound exactly how a lot of people say fear. Are you in Ireland or mainland UK?

I don't think anyone in Ireland would mishear Fiadh for 'fear' as Irish people would pronounce fear as feeeer rather than fee-ah.

I do prefer Willow though.

A friends DD is called Sophia with the NN phia, pronounced Fear. I think it's really pretty and I have never thought about it meaning 'fear'

Fiadh, definitely. Won't sound remotely like Fear which has an 'r' at the end. Willow is pretty but Fiadh is a stronger name, IMO.

I'd chose Willow but I don't think it is fair to use the emotion of the birth to make your DH agree to a name he isn't 100% happy with. There's another thread where a mum is giving in to her DH and she is told not too. Why should it be any different the other way around?

No chance of Fiadh being pronounced like fear here so at least that ( it's always Fe-ur for fear iykwim) but I can see the connection with an English accent alright.

I'd second Fiadh. I think it's absolutely beautiful, and I like the meaning too.

I've a friend with a Fiadh, only she's used the spelling Fia.

As you say, there are no pronunciation problems in Ireland. It's just English people like me who have to make a real effort to make sure that when I say it, it doesn't come out like Fear! It's a bit difficult with an English accent

I have a Sofia who gets Fia. We're in Belfast & it's just pronounced Fee a. The "r" sound comes from a particular accent like barth instead of bath etc. I know a few Fiadhs, I always thought it meant deer as in an actual deer, so it would be a bit like calling your child dog, badger, hamster.
