DD2 is 2 days old and still no name. DD1 is called Amy and we did like Amber for DD2 but had dismissed this before as being too similar.
Now DD2 is here I think it would really suit her but worried too similar - is it really giving that the sound is 'ah' rather than 'ay'?
DH likes Zoe which is ok but I don't love it.
My parents like Alice which we had planned as middle name and DH not so keen on this as first name.

Personally I think Amy and Amber are too similar. I'd wonder if you'd run out of energy on page 1 on the baby name book.

I think they are too similar as well, sorry. Zoe is fine.

Maisie?

I think they sound lovely together and don't think they are too similar at all

I think they're too similar and I wouldn't choose them together. They don't sound different enough imo.

Zoe is nice, as is Alice.

Don't feel you have to rush your decision, you've got ages, ignore everyone who keeps asking!

I know someone with a Hayley and a Harry and you just get used to it. If you like it go for it.

I actually think Amy and Zoe sound more similar than Amy and Amber (which I think are fine together).

You will also get the "from A to Z" thing!

Zara - nicer than Zoe imo? Although Amy and Amber sound ok, fairly similar but not rhyming or anything

I have the same initial as my sibling nd it's very useful! Howewver, Amy and Amber are very similar.

Have you got any other 'backup' names?

Amy and Amber sounds lovely, I too think Amy and Zoe sound more samey on account of the -ee sound ending. I'd absolutely avoid that combination. My DDs share the same initial as me, we didn't do it deliberately, our favourite names just happened to begin with that letter. I reasoned that they will only really be referred to as a pair in their childhood, after that they're on their own and might as well have your first choice names. What cracks me up is sibling names where the vowels "match", such as for instance Harry and Nancy or Isla and Micah, that's when I think "Wow, they really like the sound of that!" Congratulations, what a lovely thing to be naming a baby (smile)

Friends have an Amy and a Hannah, I think they sound great together. Love Amy, might have been new DDs name if they hadn't just used it! I also think Amy & Zoe sound a bit too similar.

I prefer Amy and Amber to Amy and Zoe for the same reasons

Also quite like Amy and Zara

I think it's nice. Love Amber, but DH vetoed it. I don't think it's too similar. The second syllables are different enough. It's not like you have a Lara and Tara. I do however think Zoe is a better middle name for Amber than Alice. So maybe go with Amber Zoe?

I don't think I would bat an eyelid confronted with Amy and Amber. Agree Amy and Zoe sound more similar. Go for it!

Amy and Amber found beautiful together. Not at all samey in my opinion.

Amy and Zoe sound more similar, especially if shouted up/downstairs to get teenager attention Grin

Congratulations on the arrival of your little girl you GrinGrin

Amy and Amber are both lovely names but personally I avoided the same initial so when they grow up and are getting post there won't be any confusion over which Miss A Smith the letter is for. Of course post may be completely obsolete by then!
