I like Miriam and Rosamund from your list. Ros is a lovely nn.
I don't like any of your dh's choices, sorry.
I like all your names from the joint list esp Katharine with a K. I like Eleanor but the country is awash with little Ellies and I'm not sure if there's room for any more.

Actually I quite like Claire, bet there aren't lots of little Claires around these days.

Katharine and Helena are two of my names. I highly recommend them.

Friends dD is Eleanor (Ellie) I love it very classy.

Your dh's suggestions are all a bit pedestrian but love Sophia.
I think Louise is dated. Edith not a very nice name. Love iris.

Love elizabeth and ao many good nns
Elisabeth with an s is unusual?
Personally I'd stick to Elizabeth or Elisabet. It looked a bit ' cherry picked' IMO.

Like Claire and Miriam
Quite like Rebecca, but prefer Rebekah
What about louison? I've always loved it but was vetoed ...

My favourites from yours and Dh's lists are Iris and Emma. From your joint list I LOVE Eleanor - who says it has to be shortened to Ellie? My 5 year old Eleanor is still Eleanor no-one has ever attempted to shorten it.

Other ideas

I have a Helena.
Other names on our list were:
Rosalind (I prefer this to Rosamund)
Marianne
Evelyn (DD is 9 so this wasn't as popular as it is now)
Hazel
Valerie
Caroline
Audrey

Thanks for the suggestions! I really like Esther, Matilda, Thea, Martha, Marianne, Rosalind and Caroline.

I'm not a big fan of Ellie as a nickname for Eleanor, what other nicknames are there?

I have come across quite a few Viviennes lately. Is it starting to become popular?

For Eleanor I have heard Nell or even Nora.

Otherwise

  1. Susanna gorgeous name with or without 'h' at the end.
  2. Isabella also gorgeous but super popular right now
  3. Claire was more popular in 70s but still lovely! Nicer than 'Clara' Slightly prefer 'Clare' spelling. Makes an excellent middle name too.
  4. Helena - classic and a bit more unusual than 'Eleanor'

All the others are nice too, except Edith which I find very old lady and a bit harsh. Quite like 'Edie' though. Or 'Eden'.

How about Emmeline? You seem to like longer names so it might suit your taste. But your DH could call her Emma/Emmie for short, which fits in with his list.

Also second Marianne (my Dd's name!)

Nell is sweet as nn for Elinor.

Hester is lovely, as an alternative to Esther.

I like all of them in your OP except for Edith & Iris.

From your latest list I love Rosalind, Caroline & Marianne, they are beautiful classic names.

My friend's DD is Eleanor & didn't have a nn when she was little. Now she's a young adult she calls herself Elle.
