Celeb has used my baby name!

And not even all that recently. I'm not really interested in celebrity culture and don't pay much attention to soaps or chart music - it's not that I'm dead old, just that I'd rather read a book! Anyway, I'm due next Saturday and have pretty much decided on a name. Foolishly, I googled it to see how popular it was and was surprised to see it moving up the charts. I then found out it has been used in the past year by a rather famous person. Should I care? I'm not bothered about whether anyone but DH and me like the name, just worried it will look like we are celebrity wannabes!

What is the name? Depends how inextricably linked to celeb it is

PrincessScrumpy · 14/02/2014 09:21

Dd is Heidi and and apparently Kerry katona has a Heidi too. I don't care my dd is a very different person and doesn't have a mum who takes drugs etc. we also like Florence and David Cameron's dd is called that. Celebs come and go so by the time she's in school nobody will consider it.

Totally depends on the name.

Dd2 has the same name as minor celebs dd but no one has ever made the connection.

Tbh the only name I associate with a celeb is Harper. Bloody Beckhams!

If its a normal then it might be an issue.

If its Princess Tiiami then you might have a problem.

Depends on the name. If it's Amelia (as for peter Andre) you're fine. If it's Suri people may think you're copying

FredFlintstonesSister · 14/02/2014 09:39

Definitely not as well known as Suri, because even in my celeb ignorance I know who she belongs to. Not such an obscure name either, just one that wasn't particularly popular before and now seems to be thanks to a particular singer. Don't really want to put the name here incase it sparks the usual "I love it", "I hate it", "I called my parrot that name" debate. Just wondered if it would put anyone else off.

Keep in mind I have 8 days to go and am crazy with pregnancy hormones! Probably no one else would care about this!

Its ok to care about the crazy stuff when you only have a week to go. Os the name top ten?

I wouldn't bother. Even if it were Harper, people would get over it quickly. It helps if it's a good name and not a ridiculous one though!

Mrsindecision · 14/02/2014 09:48

Personally I would use the name if you love it - by the sounds of it, anyone who knows you will know you are not celebrity wannabes! You will only regret using a name you like less IMO.

It's not even on the top 40! I think I'm probably being silly but I also knew early on that its a name my dad hates (as my DH foolishly let it slip that we were considering it) and maybe finding out the celebrity connection had pushed me over the edge slightly!

I don't know, it's hard to say without knowing the name in question.

If it was Harper I definitely wouldn't use it, it's only recently burst on the scene in the UK and it's undeniably associated with the Beckhams. If it was something like Polly for example well then I'd use it as it's been a name in common usage here for centuries so doesn't really matter if a celeb has used it.

Tell us the name and we will tell you Grin

Ok, it's Beyonce's daughter's middle name. Not Blue, the other bit. Don't really want to put the name out there as we haven't told anyone but a quick google search will bring it up. Can you not actually type it here though? Don't want to have to name change after this for anonymity!

Did some other celebrity use it as a first name?

Or are you just a bit worried because of the baby that has it as a middle name?

If the latter, then I really wouldn't worry about it. It's that child's first name that is the distinctive one that people will associate with the celebrity parents.

I think it's a very nice name. So nice in fact, that that's what I named my parrot Wink :o

Oh that's fine! I had to google what the name was as I didn't have a clue, and I don't think it is the first association anyone would make with that name.

Report
MavisDee · 14/02/2014 12:42

I would still use it, I don't think people would associate it with beyonce at all (and I am a massive fan!) also, I know you didn't want opinions but for what it is worth, it is a beautiful name, go for it!

Report
squoosh · 14/02/2014 12:42

Oh that is totally fine to use. Wouldn't even associate it with Beyonce to be honest (and I have an embarrassingly high knowledge of useless celeb twaddle).

FredFlintstonesSister · 14/02/2014 12:43

Oh, the relief! Thank you! One less thing to get crazy about in late pregnancy. I already look like an idiot bouncing about on my gym ball in front of the tv. It is a great name for a parrot...

More affiliated with coronation st than Beyoncé. Don't think you need to worry.

Report
JumpingJackSprat · 14/02/2014 12:45

Why would you even worry about that? A celebrity used an old well established name as her daughters middle name and you're worried about being seen as copying?

If you love that name then use it - it's not so 'out there' that everyone will be saying 'oh, like so-and-so's daughter'.

TheRaniOfYawn · 14/02/2014 12:48

I think it's fine and it's a middle name for the celeb's child. And it's a very lovely name.

Report
WhispersOfWickedness · 14/02/2014 12:50

I had to google as I didn't know what her name was!
So you definitely don't need to worry from that point of view Smile
It is a lovely name, it was on my list for DD. I asked about it a few years ago on here and most people said no because it reminded them of coronation street, although now, a few years later, it gets mostly positive comments HmmGrin
