Classic boys names?

I am only 6 weeks pregnant and thinking ahead!

DS is William Charles. We loved William, it was the only boys name we could agree on last time. I wasn't sure about Charles as I felt it sounded a bit "royalist" used together, but it's a family name for DH so we decided to use it anyway. If bump is a girl, she will probably be Lucy Elizabeth Hope. But if he is a boy? We'd like another classic name, ideally something fairly timeless that isn't going to date too much, but I don't want to use another current royal family name - for example, we couldn't have William and Harry! That said, I quite like George, but it may have to be a middle name if we use it. Surname is a one syllable, British surname, a bit like Clarke or Smith.

Our ideas so far are
Alexander
Lewis
James
George (probably as a middle name)
I like Benjamin and Samuel, DH not so keen.
DH likes Rowan, I'm not sure.
We both like Daniel, Thomas and Henry, but we can't use them as family have nicked them!

I'm not so keen on:
Edward
Oscar
Oliver
Christopher
Timothy
David (because every bloke of my generation seem to be called Dave!)

What else would we like?

I dislike Lewis but otherwise your list is great.

Robert?

I like James! Smile

I'm terrible at matching middle names to first names through! So can't help with middle names

I have an uncle Robert so not sure I can use that. Not keen on Richard but Peter is nice actually, I don't remember the last time I met a little Peter!

I want a Peter but people seem to laugh when I say Sad

Well perhaps they only like funky dunky names or made up ones. What is wrong with Peter? I think it's so cool. In fact I want one.

What about Matthew?

I think Peter is fab, actually. It makes me think of Peter Rabbit, and I picture a sturdy little toddler in dungarees (which is actually what I have sleeping upstairs at the moment

I like Matthew, but it's my ex's name so think it's probably off limits.

Lewis doesn't sound very classic to me.

I think James is most on a par with William in terms of being classic and timeless.

Probably best to steer clear of Matthew then! I like Alexander, George and James, really lovely strong names

Re William and Harry, isn't Harry actually christened Henry?

Lots of lovely classic names already suggested... only other one I can think of is John.

Alexander got the royal connection though as is Prince George's middle name (along with Louis which IMO is better than Lewis you suggest). Likely nobody will remember middle names for the prince.

Henry is nice

James bit dull but undoubtedly classic.

Love Samuel & Thomas

Oh Angry see your comment about family nicking those names.

Benjamin also lovely.
Sebastian is strong but maybe not as classic as you'd like.

Joseph is nice and classic.
