Baby names

Boys names are so hard. Help!

My dc2 is due any day now and we are expecting a boy. When I was pregnant with dc1 I had a very short list of boys names that I quite liked and a much longer list of girls names that I loved and we chose our favourite, Giselle, as soon as we saw her little face Smile

Here is our list:
Gabriel
Finn
Jude
Giles
Fabian
Jules (Dh added this recently)

I still like them all but not sure I really love any. My DH likes Gabriel most but hasn't always. I have been waiting to hear the perfect name and also telling myself that when I see my baby boy we will just know what to name him.

Can anyone of you lovely people suggest the perfect name for our Ds based on what we like already or perhaps something entirely different?!

TIA

Personally, I like Finn best; but I do have a very beautiful 12 year old one.

What other names were on your list Pygmy?! Dh isn't as keen on Finn as I am I dont think. If he was it would be the one.Sad I knew a gorgeous little Finn and used to babysit him over 20 years ago and I have liked the name ever since. I have never met another.

We're in a her similar situation Dreya with our dc3 so I don't envy you! We have used all the boys names we like for our 2 sons. Have a list of sorts for this one, but still waiting for "the one" to jump out and grab me. Loads of girls names that I would happily give a daughter- no problem choosing there, she'll be Eleanor Beatrice (Nell for short). Unless dh relents and I get to call her Cecilia ;)

Boys names are hard though, you're right.

Ivan (my current fave but do vetoed tonight, grumble grumble)
Max
Tom
Nathaniel (Nate)
Henry
Joseph

We have a Gabriel and it's a lovely name. He's no angel though. Grin

Both lovely names SicknSpan. Cecilia is gorgeous though! We know lots of Max/Maxwells. I quite like Nate actually, more than Nathaniel. Nate sounds good with our surname. Nate. Hmmm.....

My husband just said 'As in Nate dog?!' and said it with our surname and agrees it sounds good! I think it's because it's short and snappy. Not sure, but it's going on the list so thank you!

Dreya, I also have a Louis and a Hector.
I also love Edgar, Otto, Magnus, Ivo and Gilbert. Oh and Arthur and Felix, but have used them as middle names.

Thank you all for your suggestions so far but none of the names grab me. It's odd because I like some of them like Louis for example for other people's children but wouldn't use them myself.

Nate is off the list now too. This is so difficult.

Sweetpeapods may I ask how old your Finn is? I have read some previous threads on here and it would seem it's really popular (Dh really doesn't want a popular name) yet I have only ever met one and he is in his 20s now. It is also an old family name on my mum's side (I'm half Irish) and she would be thrilled if we chose it.

I only know of 3 Finns, one is 12, one is 7 and the other 5. Don't think it's an especially common name but not so odd that it's noticeably weird, if you get my meaning.

Glad I helped with Nate, even if only for a little while!

Good luck :)

How exciting! I really like Jude and Gabriel from your list, and skimming down the thread I see some of my favourites from when DD2 was born; like some previous posters I had Ivan, Idris, Eli and Ambrose on my list in the event of DD being a boy. But my absolute favourite, which I can share now that I know everyone's definitely arrived at the party chez Peaceful, is Elmo. Just lovely. Timeless, classless, would sound the same in any country and language (important to us). It's so lovely I sometimes think it would be worth another try... I wish you the very best of luck!

Dreya he is 8m, we haven't met another one yet.

Finn is nice. But Finlay (also nice) has recently been very popular and often gets shortened to 'Finn'.
But, as others have said, who cares how popular a name is if you really love it?

How about going with Phineas, shortened to finn, this way it's not too popular, has a funky nickname and solid irish roots for your mother?
Also sounds divine with Giselle! [Smile]

I'm also going to chuck in....

Tobias
Asher
Rowan
Felix

And going to do a proper Smile because I seem incapable of doing one with my pregnant sausage fingers!

I used to know a Finnbar as another Finn option. Smile
