I know it's a bit old-fashioned, but I really like the name Ian. Short, nice sounding, simple. Is it too old-man though?

Littlefish Sat 08-Feb-14 21:42:24

Sorry, but it doesn't even sound old man, it's just not a very nice name in my opinion.

anothernumberone Sat 08-Feb-14 21:45:01

I love it and I know a few really nice Ian's too which makes it nicer

FiaGrace Sat 08-Feb-14 21:46:36

Dislike it - the Ian' that I know are all a bit, well weasel like and not particularly nice.

TawdryTatou Sat 08-Feb-14 21:49:32

Will he be born a 40 year old IT consultant?

No, then.

MrCabDriver Sat 08-Feb-14 21:50:52

What about Ewan, Eoin or Evan? Similar but maybe more 'modern'?

Of course you have every right to name him Ian too :-)

MrsBungle Sat 08-Feb-14 21:51:08

I went to school in the 80's with about 10 Ian's. I'm not a fan.

Flossiechops Sat 08-Feb-14 21:55:12

God no - don't do it.

Theonlyoneiknow Sat 08-Feb-14 21:56:14

To be honest, I've never liked it. However, I recently found out it's become very popular in the US! So there are plenty of people out there who like it.

WillSingForCake Sat 08-Feb-14 21:58:04

Oh dear. That's fairly unanimous (though thank you another for being the lone supporter of the name!). I'm laughing at the thought of weasely Ian the 40 year old IT consultant... not exactly the connotation I was after!

MrsEdinburgh Sat 08-Feb-14 21:58:11

I really like it but then I know loads of lovely Ians/Iains .

WillSingForCake Sat 08-Feb-14 22:00:39

Oh god, Ian Beale! I hadn't considered that.

Hate it with a passion.

TiggyOBE Sat 08-Feb-14 22:02:46

Ian. Slightly better than Gerald. Roughly on par with Norbert.

One of my favourite people is an Ian. I think you're a bit early, though. It needs a lot more years to come around again.
