That's a lot of DCs! And a lot of names!

From your lists, and to go with your other DCs first names, I like:

Boy: Llewellyn, Raphael, Edmond
(I love Wilfrid, but think it doesn't sound like your other DC's names in tone, somehow.)

Girl: Josephine, Miriam, Miranda, Winifred

i really love Cecilia would have usedit for dd5 but dh didn't want to use it . he now he is happy to use it but there was alot of tension involved in naming her , So i'm a bit concerned opening healed wounds iyswim . also dd5 mn is cecily so not sure we can use Cecilia

i love winifred's meaning and am strangely drawn to it despite it's old lady clunky image

i really like all the boys names butespecially ambrose ,although dh will need persuading on that one but none really stand out as the one . Zebedee is the wild card it's strangely appealing but know it would raise eyebrows.

I've whittled these down to my favourite three of each:

GIRLS
Cecilia
Genevieve
Josephine nn Posy

Please don't call her Winifred! I am probably influenced by my grandmother and my great aunt here, they were both called Winifred, both hated it and insisted on being called other names. My grandmother always said it made her think "whiny Fred" Hmm

BOYS
Edmund /Edmond
Raphael
Josiah

Report
oldbutnotpastit · 23/01/2014 13:53

i think i've now ruled out Keziah , priscilla,

Winifred love this
Theodora or Dorothea
Genevieve
Merewen nn Merry or Winnie
Cassandra
Persephone
Miriam
Romilly
Georgiana
Cassandra
Josephine nn Posy
Cassandra
Rosanna nn Posy
Greta

your opinions have been really helpful

for boys i have Zebedee /zebediah are to different
so we're down to

Edmund /Edmond
Jeremiah nn Jem
Ambrose
Cedric
Raphael
Wilfred
Frederick
Josiah
Llewellyn

Frederick for a boy I reckon... and you say Winifred is one you love, so why not go for that! Have you tried picking them out of a hat / tossing a coin? Go with your gut reaction when you see what you've picked and that'll tell you how you really feel about it!

Your surname is West and you are seriously considering Rosemary or Frederick?

Report
oldbutnotpastit · 23/01/2014 18:22

I' m really surprised 2 people have gone for Cedric , i thought it would be universally flamed . i f truth be told it is probably one of my favourites along with Edmund and Raphael.
the response to Winifred has also been much more positive than i expected . i think Winifred , Miranda , Cecilia , Greta and Merewen are our front runners for a girl .

thenumberfaker no surname is not West it begins with West but has another 4 letters on the end . I do think even that might be too close for comfort to use Frederick or Rosemary , thanks for pointing it out as i had not considered that association at all .

My dd is Miranda, and I love it. It means "to be admired" and was invented by Shakespeare. Most of his heroines start off with flaws, and have to meet the hero to learn something - but Miranda was perfect to begin with it Smile. Her middle name is Dorothea. Yes, I'm an English graduate!
