oldbutnotpastit · 14/01/2014 15:04

we are expecting a surprise dc in the summer . we have a large extended family so many names we like are no longer available . we also have older dcs who each have 2 middle names .I don't want to out myself by naming them .

we both like Winifred but i'm really not sure it goes with Arabella .
i like Priscilla but think it might be too similar to dd's name.

for girls we seem to have a thing about witch names as Tabitha , Samantha , Theodora and Sabrina have all been mentioned along with Winifred .

Hester and Esther our lovely but it rhymes with the first syllable of our surname .
for boys Raphael is nice but Gabriel and Raphael but worry may be a bit twee
after watching chitty chitty bang bang DH has also mentioned Caratacus and i think he's serious.

any ideas both male and female gratefully received

Talitha
Susanna
Georgiana
Georgia
Felicity
Letitia/Lettice
Dorothea

I love Theodora and like Tabitha, prefer the first with Arabella. I also like the ones above.

If you like the ll sound/ a,
Carlotta
Anastasia
Pascale
Lalage ( pronounced Lal -a - gee)
Aurelia

Caractacus bonkers. And there is a children's sing about the ladies of the harem of the court of king Caractacus....

If he likes Roman

Marcus
Julius/Julian
Augustus/Augustine/Austin
Tibor ( the Romanian form of Tiberius)
Aurelian
Horace/Horatio
Alban
Benedict
Atticus
Ignatius/Inigo

If he likes freedom fighters
Wallace
Robert
Owen/OwainEwen
I suggest not Attila nor Genghis though the latter is a fave in outer Mongolia...

Or Anglo Saxon or Celtic...

Edred

we will definitely not be using Caractus , it was dh's completely mad idea and there is no way i would inflict it on child .Although i have considered Cedric which is it's anglicized version . He also likes Edmund .

unfortunately we can't use Tabitha as we have a family member with the name
i love theodora /dorothea but we have a T.U .D.O.R so it may be too similar

I like Edmund. Or Edmond, which is the Count of Monte Cristo (reason why I like it!).

What is a TUDOR in this context?

sorry T u d o r is our older ds's name which in some name dictionaries is given as the welsh form of theodore and this is why i think theodora might to similar

I like Winifred.

Or Matilda or Allegra

Raphael is lovely. I think it sounds fine with your other names (which are sooo nice). They won't always be referred to as a trio (unless they start a band) so choose what you love.

i'm glad someone else likes winifred . i think it's lovely but feels like a guilty pleasure .
i love matilda as well but dh vetoed it last time round as being too masculine Hmm. i'm trying to persuade him that miranda could be an alternative
allegra is lovely as is octavia but dh associates both with brands of car
