Baby due in 8 weeks and DH and I unable to agree on a name for either a boy or a girl.
Everything I suggest he shakes his head at and does a resolute 'no.'
He suggested Marlene yesterday. You can imagine.

But I may have stumbled on something. Posy. Which he likes, and I do too. It's so sweet.

But would she have to be Josephine nn Posy? And would we be inflicting a lifetime of Poser/Posy name calling?

We already have a Violet...

Great! Thanks everyone - and you don't think the Poser thing will be a grind?
Boys are impossible. The only one we both like is Sonny, but a voice inside says 'that's not a proper name,' (there's a theme here isn't there!).
Hard to think what Sonny would be 'short for' if needs be.

You could definitely get away with a rose-related name shortened to Posy. E.g Rosemary, Rosalyn/Rosalind, Rosamud etc.
And I think Posy is a gorgeous name, even for a doctor or barrister.

I prefer Marlene to Posy.

ViviPru Mon 13-Jan-14 11:56:43

In a similar vein to Posy, I think Tansy is nice.

Posy is lovely till around age 8 then it's just ridiculous sorry.

Do you mind Jo/Josie/Fina -- she could choose any of those NNs instead, too.

squoosh Mon 13-Jan-14 12:02:32

Yes Tansy is lovely and doesn't sound as sickly sweet,

Sorry not keen on Posy, especially when she becomes an adult.

Marlene reminds me of the character in Only Fools And Horses.

What about Primrose?

Pobblewhohasnotoes Mon 13-Jan-14 12:41:55

Posy is one of those cutesy baby names that I can't imagine on anyone past the age of 7.

WeAreSix Mon 13-Jan-14 12:49:43

Good suggestion pilates, Primrose is lovely.

I think Posy is nice, if you're going to call her Posy I wouldn't go for some longer name that doesn't really have Posy as a nickname. Just call her Posy.

BananaHammocks Mon 13-Jan-14 18:53:41

I know a grown up Posy, she has a good job, hasn't held her back! Is a bit too cutesy for me though!

Bowlersarm Mon 13-Jan-14 18:56:34

Not a fan of Sonny personally but it could be short for Solomon?

Posy is lovely, but again, I would have it short for something.

RalphRecklessCardew Mon 13-Jan-14 19:08:15

Marlene is much better. Marlo?

ChilliQueen Mon 13-Jan-14 19:15:19

Post... a lovely name.
Also one of The Flumps. A 1970's kids tv programme.
Still a lovely name though.

NigellasDealer Mon 13-Jan-14 19:15:25

Marlene is cool as hell, Posy sounds sweet but as others have said, perhaps only for under 8s

ChilliQueen Mon 13-Jan-14 19:15:45

Sorry... should have said Posy.
POST is not a great name!!!

Rhubarbgarden Mon 13-Jan-14 20:13:40

Twee as hell. I would hate to be called Posy.

strawberryswing Fri 17-Jan-14 15:01:33

In the minority but I'm with rhubarbgarden, I would change my name asap if I was Posy. (And I already have a hideous name).

Sorry, I love Josephine though, I would certainly give another option incase she hated Posy.

I knew a lovely woman called Posy Christmas - great name
