I like it. And goes nicely with Eva. But, might be weird if he ends up being called different shortened forms by his parents.

Ye I think we would use freddie as a nickname because my husband likes alfred m wud probably use that or freddie n not bother with alfie. Its so difficult finding a name wr both like thata not in top 100 but not too odd x

I liked Alfred too but we went for George in the end as he looks completely like a George! Freddie is very common I know loads

It sounds like it works for both of you. And I think either alf, Alfie or Freddie go with Eva.

Love it and love both the nicknames. Very in fashion at the moment too.

Brother is an Alexander who gets Sandy from Mum and Alex from Dad, and occasionally Xander, when we all liked Buffy.

More than one nickname isn't an issue! No one gets confused!

I'm not sure. I'm not so keen on old man names.

I think Alfred is a beautiful name

It's good.
Alfred as full name
Alfie as toddler
Al as teen
Alf as an old man

I like it too, I love names that lend themselves to different nn. Gives scope for your teenage ds to makes his own choice too ;)

It's a good name, definitely.

Alfred is not unusual these days. Alfie and Freddie are both great nicknames and it will be nice for him to have the choice later.

Sorry I don't understand the thing with old man names.

I personally think its awful. But lots of people like old man named and if he doesn't he can just stick with Alfie .

I really like it. I know a little Alfred with a sister called Betsie and they are just the cutest pair!

I quite like it. A good friend named her little boy Alfred 3 years ago and I wasn't keen at first but am now used to it. Freddie is definitely a better nn than the ubiquitous Alfie.

I found it helped to imagine the Alfred the Great connotations rather than just think of it as an old-man-turned-trendy name.

Love it. Would be top of the list for dc2 but we've already got a Freddie (Frederick). King Alfred is a hero of mine.
