I like it.
It makes me think of Nancy Blackett from Swallows and Amazons. Smile

Not keen.
Makes me thing of Nancy Boy - not good (sorry!)
To me there are many nicer old-fashioned style names such as Betsy, Elsa, Rosa and Daisy.

I love it - it's pretty, feminine and sounds nice to the ear, but I'd never use it because of the nancy-boy connotations sadly.

I love it - reminds me of Nurse Nancy from the Twinkle annual. I loved Nurse Nancy.

I see the link with Nancy boy, hadnt thought of it myself! I don't like any of those Toffee, but thank you for the suggestions.

Thank you, Wishful and NotAnother

I really like Nancy, DH isn't so sure as we have an '-ey' surname. I see his point through gritted teeth

I really like it. I don't really link it to the old lady trend myself. I quite like how I wouldn't know what era to place it. It's feels classic but not aged.

I love it. We wouldn't be able to use it as it doesn't go with our surname.

I love it. If I had a girl, that's what I would use. Despite already having an Oliver... Grin

I love it, it was on my list :)

My dad had a load of old illustrated graphic novels which werent like todays graphic novels but famous plays or stories, I used to read the Oliver Twist one a lot and have always loved the name Nancy.

With an -ey surname I'm not so sure though?!

I love it. Didn't manage to win the war though. But I did gt my number one favourite boys name so can't complain too much. And dd has a lovely name too.

Well, Nancy boy ain't going to mean much to a girl is it?Smile wouldn't worry about that in the slightest.

Nojustalurker · 17/12/2013 20:25

I think Nancy in Oliver Twist had a very traditional occupation - this would put be off the name a little.

JemR234 · 17/12/2013 20:26

It's nice, sweet on a baby but not too twee for a woman.

PrincessFlirtyPants · 17/12/2013 20:31

Good point Back2Two Smile

Nojustalurker what was her occupation? I'm drawing a blank!

Lovely name, and from one of my favourite books too. "Her name is Ruth really but Uncle Jim says pirates are ruthless" - explaining why a character is called Nancy.

It's dd2's name! i love it and it suite her but some people can't get their heads around it, like my friend who thought her name was "Nazi...!"

Report
OffTheCoffee · 17/12/2013 20:36

Luckily I didn't know that was David Cameron's daughter's name before we called her Nancy. If i had known, we couldn't POSSIBLY have used it!

Grin at the idea you would call your daughter Nazi.

I love that most people on the thread like the name!
