Is it irredeemable?

JanePurdy Fri 13-Dec-13 13:23:06

Hildi is good & doesn't have the connotations of elderly whiskery aunts... But fear not, haterz, I am not pregnant & DP hates it too! I still love it though.

CranberrySaucyJack Fri 13-Dec-13 12:46:26

Please don't do it. It's a terrible name.

telsa Fri 13-Dec-13 12:15:48

I know a Hildi - Finnish name - that is very nice. Hilda is not bad in itself, but I do think of Margaret Hilda Thatcher - whom I cannot abide!

Absolutely love it. Was the name of a treasured aunt, though, so will always have mainly positive associations for me.

GwendolineMaryLacey Thu 12-Dec-13 15:08:18

I'd never dream of using it and was going to say it was a foul name but actually, if you look at it and sound it out a few times it's actually quite nice. Not sure you could get over the Ogden/rollers thing but nicer than you would think.

orangepudding Thu 12-Dec-13 14:47:51

I like it.

Really really dislike Hilda, although I love Matilda and the nickname Tilda. Hilda sounds so much more old fashioned to me.

Frontdoorstep Wed 11-Dec-13 18:14:13

It has an image of being old fashioned, that's ok though, it's easy to say and spell and people can identify with it as a name.

It's quite nice really, go for it.

squoosh Wed 11-Dec-13 17:23:39

Hilda is a really bad choice.

Really bad.

ohtanmybum Wed 11-Dec-13 15:56:15

My wonderful Mum's name, so it represents everything she was to me - loving, generous, unselfish, kind, thoughtful, fun-loving, determined, resilient, and she had a beautiful singing voice. She was Hildy to her parents.

TalkativeJim Wed 11-Dec-13 15:31:09

Prefer Hildur.

But maybe you'd have to be Icelandic.

It's my Granny's name too, she also goes by the nickname Tilly.

Totallyunited Tue 10-Dec-13 21:29:06

Dreadful name

DramaAlpaca Tue 10-Dec-13 20:24:33

I hate it, but then I don't like any of the "old lady" names that have been revived recently.

Saxie Tue 10-Dec-13 20:22:33

I love it. It's my Granny's name but she is known as Hilly as she hates it.

KatherinaMinola Tue 10-Dec-13 20:17:06

The newest baby I know is called Hilda.

PheasantPlucker Tue 10-Dec-13 20:15:33

I really like Hilda - and it is the name of my lovely Godmother

Onesleeptillwembley Tue 10-Dec-13 20:13:44

It's an ugly name.

mathanxiety Tue 10-Dec-13 20:04:43

I think it is a 'gentle' name too. I associate it with a light grey-lilac colour.

JanePurdy Tue 10-Dec-13 19:50:32

I'm keeping it on the list!

CarryOnDancing Tue 10-Dec-13 09:51:01

I'd much prefer to meet a little Hilda then any of the current "trend" names.
It's a winner for me!

Wincher Tue 10-Dec-13 09:45:56

I know a new baby Hilda...

NomDeClavier Tue 10-Dec-13 09:43:50

Hilde? Less of the da sound at the end which I agree also makes it sound quite harsh.
