I haven't seen any mumsnetters mention the name 'Roger', so what do you reckon? Is it due a revival? What other names could be resurrected?

smother Wed 20-Nov-13 13:45:25

No. Next?

squoosh Wed 20-Nov-13 13:47:58

Hopefully not.

Arabesque1 Wed 20-Nov-13 13:48:04

Eh, no.

I doubt it. Not before Kevin, Keith and Wayne at least.

heidihole Wed 20-Nov-13 14:01:43

Christ, no

Baby Roger. Doesn't sound right!

In fact it sounds so wrong, I can't imagine that even people who are called Roger were ever actually a baby called Roger.

LCHammer Wed 20-Nov-13 14:06:19

Roger is out.

Brian, Walter, Norman stand a chance.

squoosh Wed 20-Nov-13 14:14:15

I mean it will definitely come back in just hopefully not for a while yet. Brace yourselves ladies for a future grandson called Roger. Start practising your best 'oh what a lovely name', 30 years should be enough notice to become halfway convincing.

Stanley is your parents' Roger.

PelvicFloorOfRassilonClenchRem Wed 20-Nov-13 14:15:55

The world just isn't ready for an influx of baby Rogers just yet.

SirChenjin Wed 20-Nov-13 14:16:25

Oh lordy, I hope not. You might as well call him Shag.

PelvicFloorOfRassilonClenchRem Wed 20-Nov-13 14:16:53

Maybe Nicholas?

squoosh Wed 20-Nov-13 14:18:02

Brian and Kevin are still in the top 100 Irish boys names. And Martin! We laugh in the face of fashion!

UriGeller Wed 20-Nov-13 14:20:30

And Noel at a push.

But not Roger

MadBusLady Wed 20-Nov-13 14:23:03

I like Roger.

<waves very small flag>

I agree the double meaning is maybe too much of a problem though.

DorothyGherkins Wed 20-Nov-13 14:23:37

It was Roger who compiled that wonderful thesaurus. No one took his work seriously until he changed his name to Roget.

CockyMcChicken Wed 20-Nov-13 14:24:18

My sister is going to name her baby Roland if it's a boy.

squoosh Wed 20-Nov-13 14:26:26

Roland reminds me of Grange Hill.

TopHatAndTails Wed 20-Nov-13 14:30:52

No, I don't think so. Colin?

LCHammer Wed 20-Nov-13 14:38:45

Roger's thesaurus. A million ways to avoid using a word. He knew what he was talking about.

eurochick Wed 20-Nov-13 14:42:39

Although that was Roget...

But still no to Roger.

Arabesque1 Wed 20-Nov-13 14:43:36

Roland is quite retro. Roger, on the other hand (and apart from the obvious problem) is very much on a par with Colin, Brian or Terry.

Scarletohello Wed 20-Nov-13 14:44:51

Only if your second name is Rabbit.
