Or would you pick something different if you could go back?

The name become the child. I love my child, and their name is the linguistic manifestation of them. I couldn't not love the name, the two are too hard to separate now.

I still love it and it suits him though he does get called a different similar name by accident.

Neither of my DDs have my first choice of names - like everything else in a marriage, they were a compromise.

Having said that, I dn't dislike them - but they are not what I would have picked left to my own devices.

Still love them! DS' name is the best boys name in the world. With DD I might be a little more confident with going against the grain than I was then but I love her name and I'm glad we went with it.

Still love both of mine and they really seem to suit them.

Interesting isn't it? Do you think people grow up to suit their name? Or do we instinctively give them a name that will suit the person they will become?

Anyway, I would pick both names again

I still love the name of my DD, 5.

I really love my Ds's name. Still don't know anyone else with the name and it's so very 'him'! Grin

I love ds1 name.
Ds2 no, doesnt suit him. He's 3 months and we've changed it once already, nothing suits him because he's an Old Man Baby!

Just hope he grows into it.

Yes! 10 mo and still love it. Everyone comments on how unusual and lovely it is. I am tempted to lie about it sometimes as don't want it to become a really popular name by word of mouth!

I do really like DD's name but I still prefer my first choice name which we couldn't use as it was BIL's (now ex) girlfriend's name at the time DD was born. I wouldn't change it now but I still wish I'd chosen it at the time instead.

I would change one of my DSes names. I liked his name at the time, but if I was naming him now I wouldn't chose it. There are one or two popular names I wish we had used-we were so keen on having something not too overused that we dismissed them, but they are lovely names hence the popularity!

Yes still love my boys names, only ones I know with them, but not unusual.

I like it, but more because she has grown into it. She's called by a shortened version that I never really thought about much before she was born, I kept talking about the full name even though I knew she'd be known by the short version, god knows why I did that.

I couldn't imagine her being called anything else now.

notso · 13/11/2013 14:10

The one I love most is the one I was least sure of, it was DH's first choice and I was in shock after a very fast unassisted birth so just went with it!
DS2 I love although I always shorten it despite not liking the short version whilst pg.
DD and DS1, I love because they are my DC's names although if I was having them now They would be called different names.

Yep, love my boys name. Was pretty much the only name OH and I agreed on and I cannot imagine him being called anything else, we picked it in my second trimester.

We have already named the second child that I have yet to conceive lol. That's how prepared we are!!!

Absolutely. DC are now 2 and 4 and I have never regretted choosing their names.
I've already found a boy name that I equally love this time; but no girl name. There are a few that I like, some I even like a lot, but none that I love like I love my DC's names. I hope we'll find one before DC3 arrives (or that it's a boy!).

I love DDs (3) name. Chose it 15 years ago after hearing it on TV (rare at the time, more populare now) and still love it now.

Honestly No.

Both dc have nice names, lovely names in fact, but I might choose differently if I went back in time. No big deal.

DC1 has a traditional Irish name and while I like it and I think it suits his traditional Irish surname and flows well together, I realise now that if he travels in the future he might have to explain it. It might not carry over as well to other nationalities.

DC2 has a nature name and I still love it. DC2 is a very boyish boy and likes trucks and stuff, so his name is slightly softer than his personality. Again not a big deal at all.

You can't really go wrong with classic, easily idenitfiable names.

I would choose differently. I still like my DS's name but has been used as a girls name on Eastenders and I've realised the name has different connotations that the ones I was thinking of when choosing the name. I also still like my DD's name but it has become massively popular, and as we have a common surname, I wish we had chosen a more unusual name.

I have 3 DDs, 17, 13 and 6 and I still love their names.

Yes love my DC's names even though they are both popular. Neither of them could possibly be a different name. I love saying their names and am proud of their names, as I am very proud of them.

Still absolutely love DD's name - just trying to find a name for DC2 that I feel as sure of!

Report
AbiRoad · 13/11/2013 15:09

Still love both, although one has become massively popular and I wish it hadn't. If I had known it would be so popular I might not have chosen it, but I still love it and it now "is" DD. Also, I cant really imagine her as any of the other girls names we had on our list at the time.
We have twins (non-id) and I do sometimes try to imagine if they would have suited their names if each got the other - it was pure luck which got which rather than a question of feeling that they particularly suited the names the way round we gave them.
