What do you think of Yva as a girl's name? It's listed on Mumsnet's Baby Name Finder.

I have never heard it before - it sounds made up and doesn't look quite right in terms of spelling.

I know an Ivo (boy) and an Iva.

Where did you get it from OP?

Nagoo Mon 23-Sep-13 16:28:14

A common name pointlessly mis-spelled, if you are British.

Nagoo Mon 23-Sep-13 16:28:57

misspelled, says my spellchecker. Oh the irony.

Nagoo Mon 23-Sep-13 16:29:35

Hang on, you listed it OP. hmm

SirChenjin Mon 23-Sep-13 16:29:43

As in Eva?

nicename Mon 23-Sep-13 16:32:29

I don't like the spelling. It looks ugly, especially in capitals YVA. Is it a 'traditional' spelling somewhere?

nicename Mon 23-Sep-13 16:33:23

Nagoo - that is funny. I'm off to list 'Bumface' in the namefinder, then start a new thread!

bruffin Mon 23-Sep-13 16:48:13

Isnt this one of those computered generated posts that happen if you search a name on the MN babyfinder.

nicename Mon 23-Sep-13 16:56:02

There's only one way to find out...

bruffin Mon 23-Sep-13 17:28:13

There is a button on the right side of the baby name finder screen which says
"post my shortlist on talk"

LaurieFairyCake Mon 23-Sep-13 17:30:19

Not a real name

IIINGIII Mon 23-Sep-13 17:31:51

My sister suggested Yva as the baby's paternal Grandmother is Yvonne...

IIINGIII Mon 23-Sep-13 17:43:19

Fortunately not British!

TallulahBetty Mon 23-Sep-13 18:42:37

To me, the spelling looks ugly.

LynetteScavo Mon 23-Sep-13 18:48:40

I'd think it was a European (not British) spelling.

My DC go to school with lots of children whose parents aren't British and so I'm used to lots of Oskars/ Oliwias, so it wouldn't bother me.

LynetteScavo Mon 23-Sep-13 18:50:30

Mil is Yvonne.

DH suggested Yve for DD's name. I kid you not. hmm I think I shouted at him for being so stupid.

Divinidylle Mon 23-Sep-13 21:41:53

This is completely off topc but LynetteScavo you always make me giggle smile

Divinidylle Mon 23-Sep-13 21:42:50

Topic, even smile
And would go for Eva rather than Yva, she would constantly need to correct it!

ShadowSummer Mon 23-Sep-13 22:29:57

I'm not sure whether I should be pronouncing Yva as "E-va" or "I-va"

manicinsomniac Mon 23-Sep-13 23:24:30

It could be real, I know an Ysabel and an Yvie so it seems that Y could be pronounced E/I somewhere - maybe Spanish or French??

Divinidylle Tue 24-Sep-13 12:11:45

I am french - Y is pronounced E/I sometimes - like name Yves for a boy (probably why I am not keen on Yva!)

Littleen Fri 27-Sep-13 18:37:15

I think it's pretty smile

CPtart Fri 27-Sep-13 18:53:01

It sounds like you are trying to make different a pretty but extremely over-used name.
