We cannot decide on baby boy name for DS who is now 7 days old! We are at polar opposites with me really liking Odhran and husband wanting Humphrey and thinking of a meet in the middle name of Aneurin.

Odhran. I love that name. I wanted it for DS but DH wasn't keen.

Not keen on Humphrey, very wet and chinless IMO. Like the others though. Know an Odhran, he's very nice if that helps!

Humphrey is scrumptious. Lots of people (including me) won't know how to pronounce Odhran and he will spend his life correcting misspellings and mispronunciations.

I know a gorgeous Odhran! It's a lovely name, much nicer than Humphrey IMO.

I don't like Humphrey at all.

I have never heard of Odhran, and don't know how to pronounce it. When I saw it written down, I read it as Odd-run.

I always think of Bodhran when I hear the name Odhran. That's what an Odhran in college became known as. Not a great nn!

Odhran, great name! !

hellokitty123 Thu 12-Sep-13 14:31:42

Humphrey - great underused classic!

Not sure how to pronounce Odhran, am guessing Odran?

Humphrey Aneurin would be lovely imo.

ZolaBuddleia Thu 12-Sep-13 15:07:41

The one I know pronounces it Oran. Or - ann.

Mollydoggerson Thu 12-Sep-13 15:16:09

Humphrey is lovely, big teddy bear.

Odhran - I am not so keen, nickname can be Odie. It's may be slightly awkward I think.

If only to save him from the horror that is Humphrey.

Aneurin reminds me of anuerysm,

Kikibee Thu 12-Sep-13 15:34:18

Ha ha ha ha, great joke grin

squoosh Thu 12-Sep-13 15:36:52

But if you don't live in Ireland I think calling him Odhran will be a bit of pain in the bum. People won't have a clue how to pronounce it.

Still better than Humphrey though.

holycowwhatnow Thu 12-Sep-13 15:40:28

And if you DO live in Ireland, having him called Humphrey will ensure he gets beaten up on the way home from school. Odhran is lovely.

Sleepthief Thu 12-Sep-13 16:35:39

Aneurin is by far my favourite of the three. To me Humphrey sounds like a joke name and IMO Odhran is just ugly (especially when there are some many beautiful Irish names to choose from. Aneurin is interesting and has gravitas (although iPhone keeps changing it to aneurism, so fair point grin)

Sleepthief Thu 12-Sep-13 16:36:43

By the way, I'm Irish so that's maybe why Humphrey is a joke name to me...

JamieandtheMagicTorch Thu 12-Sep-13 18:10:47

Ooh I love Aneurin (nn Nye). Choose that!

forgetmenots Thu 12-Sep-13 18:32:47

Odhran, every time. Really dislike Humphrey.

exoticfruits Thu 12-Sep-13 18:36:02

Don't like any of them.

hellokitty123 Thu 12-Sep-13 20:40:28

Don't think people think 'joke name' when they hear Humphrey Bogart.

nextyearitsbigschool Thu 12-Sep-13 20:52:30

I'm afraid I would think "poor child" if I heard of a Humphrey.

thistlelicker Thu 12-Sep-13 20:55:44

None of the above sorry

SirChenjin Thu 12-Sep-13 20:57:45

Don't like any of them, sorry.

I can't believe you can't clearly see this is a brilliant name. I think you must be sleep deprived.

flowers Congratulations on your baby!
