Our daughter's name is Elizabeth. We would like to add a middle name on her birth certificate and the deadline is tomorrow. We would like to choose a name which flows nicely with Elizabeth, but more importantly to give her options should she decide to be known by her middle name.

The choices are as follows:

Elizabeth Sophia
Elizabeth Sophie
Elizabeth Alice
Elizabeth Amelia/Amelie
Elizabeth Olivia
Elizabeth Emma

Which name do you prefer and why, please? Thanks!!!

My vote would be for Elizabeth Alice. Sounds lovely. Congratulations!

MoonlightandRoses · 09/09/2013 22:02

Firstly, congratulations.

Secondly, out of your list I like the flow/sound of Elizabeth Alice best. Slightly more old-fashioned, but Elizabeth Anne could be another option?

looki · 09/09/2013 22:03

Elizabeth Sophia - but tbh I think there are enough options for her to 'change'' her name significantly using a variant of her first name.

DessieLou · 09/09/2013 22:03

Elizabeth Sophia gets my vote. I think it flows really well plus gives her the option of using both Sophia or Sophie if she wants.

Bowlersarm · 09/09/2013 22:06

Any but not Elizabeth Olivia. They sound too similar, and I don't think they go together.

Purplelooby · 09/09/2013 22:06

I like Elizabeth Emma.

SpottedDickandCustard · 09/09/2013 22:07

Elizabeth olivia is a bit of a tongue twister but the rest are lovely.

Elizabeth sophia is my favourite.

CordeliaRose · 09/09/2013 22:10

Congratulations on the birth of your daughter!
Elizabeth is a beautiful name; I agree that Alice goes - and flows Smile - well as a middle name.

OutragedFromLeeds · 09/09/2013 22:12

Elizabeth is lovely and has so many nicknames that she already has loads of choices available.

I like all the middle names as well. I think Elizabeth Alice is my favourite and also really like Elizabeth Sophia. Olivia, Emma, Amelie and Amelia are overused at the moment although they're all good names.

I think a one syllable middle name is nice with Elizabeth.

Elizabeth Mae
Elizabeth Grace
Elizabeth Rose
Elizabeth Hope
Elizabeth Faith
Elizabeth Jane
Elizabeth Belle
Elizabeth Brooke
Elizabeth Dawn
Elizabeth Tate
Elizabeth Niamh

poocatcherchampion · 09/09/2013 22:22

Alice as well.

absentmindeddooooodles · 09/09/2013 22:27

Congratulations :)

Definatley elizabeth sophia. Gorgeous name.

superdupermama · 09/09/2013 22:28

Thank you ladies. I agree with you regarding Olivia, does not go that well. Amelie/Amelia are nice names, but overused. I like the combination Elizabeth Alice, but together may sound a bit old fashioned; also, are they a bit similar sounding? Like Rose and Grace, but decided not to go with any of them.

If you were to choose between Elizabeth Sophia and Elizabeth Sophie, which one would you choose?

Pelvicflooragogo · 09/09/2013 22:35

I prefer Sophia, has a lovely lilt to it, and a little bit exotic ie less English but slightly rah in a good way!

AndWhenYouGetThere · 09/09/2013 22:36

Elizabeth Sophia is perfect. My favourite by far - beautiful choice.

I like Elizabeth Alice too, but my favourite nickname for Elizabeth is Elise, and Elise Alice doesn't work.

CordeliaRose · 09/09/2013 22:37

I agree - Elizabeth Sophia.

DizzyPurple · 09/09/2013 22:39

Sophia

capercaillie · 09/09/2013 22:41

Elizabeth Alice is lovely.

superdupermama · 09/09/2013 22:48

Another question. I agree short one syllable middle name would be perfect with the long name such as Elizabeth. Is Elizabeth Sophia a bit of a mouthful, a little too long?

OP posts:
superdupermama · 09/09/2013 22:54

Also, which name would work with the nickname Eliza? Eliza Sophia (both ending with "a"?), Eliza Sophie, Eliza Alice (too similar sounding?)?

ChippingInNeedsSleepAndCoffee · 09/09/2013 22:59

It depends on your surname as well.

TBH middle names are so seldom used that worrying about it in conjunction with possible nicknames is a tad pointless :) She's not likely to use her middle name while using a diminutive of her 'real' name.

Definitely Sophia over Sophie.

wigglytoes · 09/09/2013 23:18

How many syllables does your last name have?

LeoandBoosmum · 10/09/2013 00:46

I know a lot say Sophia but I hate that name...I personally feel it's a name posh people call their cat Grin I like Elizabeth Alice.Elizabeth Faith is nice, as one poster suggested. May I offer Elizabeth Cerys (Cerys is Welsh for gift) :)

We have a 4 syllable surname!!! It's quite a lot with the name such as Elizabeth, but my husband loved it. Somehow Sophia Elizabeth flows, but Elizabeth Sophia is a bit of a mouthful...
Is Elizabeth Alice a bit too old-fashioned?
What about Alice and Sophia as names in general, which one do you prefer?

Layl77 · 10/09/2013 09:42

Elizabeth Sophia lovely

Onyabike · 10/09/2013 11:00

Another vote for Elizabeth Sophia from me!
