I'm closer to 40 and we called them STDs at school so I had to think about it

By the time your lo reaches the end of primary I would say it would be totally obsolete and fine to use

I had these initials until I got married. Only one girl at school really took the piss and I've had a few sniggers here and there but never anything too bad. Am 31 now. Am still a bit at my mum for not thinking about it. Can you give a middle name so there's an extra initial to use if needed?

A girl I was at school with had those initials and she changed her name legally when she was about 11. Became known by her middle name.

I'm 33 & had the initials VD until I married 5 years ago. Even had them embroidered on front of games kit (with middle initial too). I knew what VD was, but most of my friends didn't - I used to tell them myself & laugh.

No one ever bullied me/made fun of me. OK, it wasn't ideal but it honestly didn't affect me negatively.

People of a certain age know what VD is but, as another poster said, it'll be completely passé within a few years.

I'm sure Wiki et al list the correct meaning of VD, but is a kid really going to look it up to check if its something they can make a joke out of if they've never heard of the abbreviation VD? No.

I never use just the initials of my first & last name, I always include my middle initial too. I've always assumed most people do, but maybe I'm in the minority? I don't see it being a problem (except for people over 25) as long as there's a middle name to make it V?D.
