Is Eric a winner or does it seem a bit nerdy?

Blonde haired Viking type!

I quite like it...but then I also like Boris...

I'm of a generation that thinks of it as being a "Dad's name" but then I met a 2 yr old called Clive the other day grin so I guess it's probably old enough to be due a comeback.

Not keen, but I absolutely love Erica.

Do you know that you're having a boy? smile

nancerama Mon 29-Jul-13 18:05:14

I know 2 that have been born this year. It's growing in popularity.

Eric still looks a bit wet (old man in the wrong sort of way - sorry). Erik, on the other hand, is a dashing Viking.

I know a little boy Eric

he's great

tableandsofa Mon 29-Jul-13 18:49:34

Eric is bad, like Clive and Malcolm. Don't do it.

Wbdn28 Mon 29-Jul-13 19:10:06

It's a great name! Due a comeback.

sleepingbeautiful Mon 29-Jul-13 19:10:10

Oh I like Malcolm too! It sounds like a rugged Scottish hero doing battle on the moors. Eric should be standing at the prow of his longboat waiting to greet adventure on the horizon!
(Do I need to get out more?!)

hothereinnit Mon 29-Jul-13 19:15:22

Love Eric. dh vetoed it sad (he was fine with Erica though, oddly!)

MargeSimpsonzz Mon 29-Jul-13 19:18:00

I quite like it. But I've just come off a thread where the choice was Albert or Arthur!! so next to those two names Eric seems cool and contemporary and although it's an old man name, it's not a cliché old man name.

Malcolm is another name that is better than Arthur or Albert. I don't mind Clive either!

MargeSimpsonzz Mon 29-Jul-13 19:19:33

Yes, good point, Erik with a k, it's better.

ChristineDaae Mon 29-Jul-13 19:20:06

Phantom of the operas real name. Underused but quite nice.

Fraxinus Mon 29-Jul-13 19:42:25

Erik blood axe! Love it.

Rhubarbgarden Mon 29-Jul-13 20:01:08

Love it.

Very helpful responses! The consensus seems to be that adding the k and taking away the c makes it a bit less nerdy eh? I've got a girl's name sorted, but really did underestimate how difficult choosing a boy's would be. I also like Malcom but fear it would become Malky.

niffernaffer Tue 30-Jul-13 19:42:20

Eric and Malcolm are both brilliant!

Eric Malcolm Graham Derek Brian Clive Keith very similar to me. Same image. Grey and boring 60+ year olds. Hmm, maybe due a revival.

I don't like them but you obviously do. And if it becomes the trend the grey boring image will be replaced with chubby toddler, gorgeous little boy images smile

squoosh Tue 30-Jul-13 20:36:12

Ultra nerdy.

Erics look like pipe cleaners.

Prince Eric from Little Mermaid comes to mind, not that that is a bad thing - who doesn't like a Prince Charming type?
