Not sure how I feel about using my boys name, George, if Kate and William use it. Am I being stupid or would this put you off? Not due until December so is it a big deal??

hawkmcqueen Mon 22-Jul-13 20:57:20

I don't reckon they'll pick George, I think you are safe! They will pick something less used I think - Albert???

Parisbanana Mon 22-Jul-13 20:57:26

I wouldn't be able to call my child the same name as the new Royal baby, even if I had preplanned it so no I don't think you are being stupid.
I'm not anti royals or anything but really wouldn't want people to think I had named my baby after the future king

MikeLitoris Mon 22-Jul-13 20:58:30

I said Albert hawk

ClaraOswald Mon 22-Jul-13 20:59:38

I want Arthur.

TheDoctrineOfAllan Mon 22-Jul-13 21:00:48

Not a big deal, no.

SadPander Mon 22-Jul-13 21:02:51

Thanks Hawk, fingers crossed! We don't even know if we are having a boy yet, but its the one boys name I really like. Hopefully too common for the Royals though!

Parisbanana - I'm exactly the same, I have nothing against them at all, but wouldn't want people to think I was following their lead. I probably shouldn't care and half of me thinks that to not use the name for that reason would be to allow my name choice to be affected by Royals (when this is what I'm trying to avoid people thinking I'm doing if you see what I mean?!)

hawkmcqueen Mon 22-Jul-13 21:05:42

Mike we should have placed bets!

moominsville Mon 22-Jul-13 21:05:48

If you are not due until December I wouldn't worry. I have a George William. I'm not a royalist, but guess I might be secretly pleased I gave me son a name fit for a king ;-)

SadPander Mon 22-Jul-13 21:06:04

I think Albert or Arthur would be lovely (and not only because I don't want them to use George!) Allan you may be right and I need to get over myself, but I do feel like it would stop the name being 'mine' if you see what I mean, for it to be associated with such a high profile baby.

Bowlersarm Mon 22-Jul-13 21:07:52

I don't think it can be George because of the prince Charles thing.

I'm hoping for Arthur.

ouryve Mon 22-Jul-13 21:10:40

George is a fab name. One of my boys has it as a middle name.

I can see how you could be worried about there being 5 others in his class if W&K used it, though grin

EeTraceyluv Mon 22-Jul-13 21:11:17

my 13 year old George is appalled at the possibility grin

TheDoctrineOfAllan Mon 22-Jul-13 21:12:59

There are enough famous Georges though - it's not like it's Louis-Jean-Lucifer or something...

soontobeslendergirl Mon 22-Jul-13 21:14:13

Going to be a bit different here and go for Edgar or maybe Alfred and an outside of David to honor Wales maybe

AidanTheRevengeNinja Mon 22-Jul-13 21:20:07

I worried about this as my DS has a high odds royal baby name. But then I remembered I'm a year younger than Prince William and don't know a whole load of Williams, and when I meet one my first thought isn't "were you named after..." They tend to go for such classic/common names it won't stand out after the first few months of royal baby obsession.

HorryIsUpduffed Mon 22-Jul-13 21:21:15

I'm having just this dilemma - we have settled on another royal boy name. I was desperately hoping they'd have a girl for purely selfish reasons blush

Pleasecansomeonereply Mon 22-Jul-13 21:21:15

soontobe - I think David too smile

lostinindia Mon 22-Jul-13 21:22:26

What Prince Charles thing?

CajaDeLaMemoria Mon 22-Jul-13 21:23:25

They think it'll be Frederick, apparently.

I wouldn't worry for a while, honestly.

NadiaWadia Mon 22-Jul-13 21:23:44

If it has to be after a previous royal, how about Richard? Time we had another of those!

But I bet they'll go for George.

Parisbanana Mon 22-Jul-13 21:24:18

I don't think they'll call him David because then you get those people making connections with David Cameron....too political.

soontobeslendergirl Mon 22-Jul-13 21:24:59

I thought about Frederick, but there is already a Frederick Windsor so thought maybe Alfred but known as Freddie?

thegreylady Mon 22-Jul-13 21:25:27

He is Charles Philip Arthur George

soontobeslendergirl Mon 22-Jul-13 21:26:24

Take your pick:

Maybe Ethelred is due a comeback smile
