Baby names

Alexander or Archie?

That's it really! Grin

DS1 is due on Tuesday and I'm having last minute naming wobbles! DH and I really struggled to come up with a boy's name (his working title is Baby Dave!) It was hard to find something that we agreed on and that also goes well with the girls' names, but Alexander seemed to fit well. (DD1 is Gabriella and DD2 is Sophia) However, I was looking at a name book the other day and came across Archie, which I now really, really love! I'm not normally keen on shortened versions of names on birth certificates but I really like it and wouldn't use the longer Archibald at all. Alexander would be known as Alex though.

What are your thoughts ladies? Smile

Alexander. It's lovely! Archie much overused I think. More than one in each year in my dcs school.

Alex.
Alex or Alexander goes better with your other DC names. Not so much Archie TBH.
Archie always makes me think of the inventor from Balamory. Am singing the Archie the Inventor song in my head as I type. Grin

Thank you for the speedy replies! DH will love you both for agreeing with him! Grin And I'm so thick, had completely not thought about Archie the Inventor despite DD2 being Balamory daft right now, hormones!

I prefer Alexander / Alex. I think it fits better with the other DC names.

But Archie's nice too.

Alexander. Far too many Archies and it's a bit old man.

Definitely Alexander, at least a 1000 times nicer than Archie.

Definitely Alexander, love it and it will suit him all his life. Archie is cute for a baby and an old man but not do much for the years inbetween IMO

Agree with MJ Alexander is timeless and fits better with the girls I think. Archie is cute but will be of its era and also not such a great name to grow into.
I'm biased though and mine goes by Xander which sets him apart from the Alex s, which is useful when he loses things! ;)

Thank you everyone! I think I'm getting the impression that you all prefer Alexander?? Grin I think the heat and hormones have got to me this week, hopefully we don't have to wait too much longer to meet him!

And Bassingtonffrench, thanks for joining in the Dave love Grin my MIL keeps telling me that Baby Dave will stick if we keep calling him that. It flows beautifully with the girls I think, Gabriella, Sophia and Dave!!

Alexander....I have a feeling Archie might be he type of name you will regret later. You will never ever ever regret Alexander. Classic and gives him options for shortening etc

I have an Archie, and there are not too many of them around us. Only 2 in a school of 400+. There are 2 boys called Alex in Archie's class!!

Oh Jazzicatz Sad I don't think that it's the fact that no-one likes it, just that out of the two names, Alexander is the preferred option. It could have been that if I asked which was better, Archie or something else, Archie could have been the favourite. IYSWIM? I love love love Archie, hence the reason I was finding it difficult to decide Smile

Alexander is lovely. Archie is soooo overused where I live, ditto Alfie. Not bad names but certainly at saturation point, like Jack was ten years ago.

Definitely Alexander. Archie has become extremely overused where I am. I prefer Alexander anyway (not that I hate Archie!).
