What do people think of this name? we also like Zeph (short for Zephaniah) but worry that it's just a bit much and he will be embarrassed to say it! Any thoughts?

Seth Green! Love it.

sandwichyear Thu 11-Jul-13 01:04:15

thanks very much everyone. I guess I"m just surprised it provoked such a strong negative reaction in the people who don't like it- "evil" etc! I've never had such a strong reaction to a name I don't think- even ones I really don't like. Despite this, weirdly it really is growing on me....

smile DD1 would have been Laurence and dd2 Rowan. Dp hated Barnaby then but has allowed me to call my mythical ds1 it now - Barnaby Asher. smile

We had 2 boys names on our list and lots of girls. If DD had been a boy she would have been Laurence or Barnaby. When I say your list had a couple of our names, a couple was the whole list!

Beamur - we found boys' names really easy to choose, and girls' names almost impossible. I had two girls!

GeordieCherry Tue 09-Jul-13 22:32:17

I love it. Top of my list, but we had a girl!

Oh, & Seth Green? Lush

Beamur Tue 09-Jul-13 22:28:32

How about Heath as an alternative? Heard of one recently and it's a lovely name, also has a heroic northern grittiness to it!

Beamur Tue 09-Jul-13 22:27:42

I like it. V difficult to say if you have a lisp though. (Like me)
Remus - I had a girl, but your list has a couple that were on my short list if DD was a boy grin

Maybe it's a Marmite name....I hate it, sorry.

BeaLola Tue 09-Jul-13 22:21:51

I have only ever met two Seths ....
First was at college twenty plus yes ago.... He was cool, deep thinking and was so kind without being wussy?......second was the best man at wedding I was at five or so years ago - he was tall, incredibly sexy and very charming in a kind of think fab Daniel Craig crossed with Liam Neeson and pat cash ! Therefore I love that name !

BlueStarsAtNight Tue 09-Jul-13 21:26:21

Sorry but I agree with those that say hussy and evil - that's exactly what it makes me think! I also think it's a bit of a weedy name. I don't know any, so it's just based on gut reaction to the name.

Sorry, Sandwich. Do ignore me. I just really, really dislike it. I've never met one so it's based entirely on sound / the look on the page / connotations.

I suspect you'd hate the names I like. Favourite boys' names include: Laurence / Rowan / Bartholomew / Barnaby / Asher / Simon and Simeon / Bram / Edward / Edmund

Love Zeph!

ZolaBuddleia Tue 09-Jul-13 09:36:00

I love it, although it's climbing in popularity, which would put me off.

birdofthenorth Mon 08-Jul-13 23:52:15

Love love love it. If it wasn't a tongue twister alongside DD's name it would have been a serious contender for DS (who's actually Arthur, in case that's relevant)

sandwichyear Mon 08-Jul-13 23:48:13

MrsEricBana: that's Set though? The Egyptian God? This is Biblical Seth as in son of Adam and Eve. Or do they refer to the Egyptian one as Seth too?

MrsEricBana Mon 08-Jul-13 23:37:44

Afraid I agree it sounds hissy and evil, Set(h) being the evil uncle of Horus, killing his own brother etc. Similarly I am not keen on Saul.

Smitten1981 Mon 08-Jul-13 23:33:45

I love it and it's my no1 name pick. DH has ruled it out because he doesn't like names with one syllable (his name is one syllable and he thinks it's too 'nothingy').

I love it too. Unusual and as said up thread- very strong

idiot55 Mon 08-Jul-13 22:50:42

Sorry, I class it as a "noise name" like josh, it's just a sound to me! Sorry,

sonlypuppyfat Mon 08-Jul-13 22:49:53

Can't you remember Seth from Emmerdale Farm
